Job summary

Gulbenkian Institute for Molecular Medicine (GIMM) in Portugal seeks a Histopathology Technician to support tissue analysis, processing, and histology techniques. Qualifications

• Requires Bachelor’s or Master’s in Pathological Anatomy or Biomedical Laboratory Sciences.
• Interest in histology and molecular biology techniques.
• Proficient in English (spoken and written) with good communication and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Planning, implementing, and controlling multiple stages of analysis and treatment of biological tissues for histology.
• Applied histology in human, organoid, and animal models (e.G., Danio rerio, Drosophila melanogaster, Mus musculus).
• Planning, implementing, and controlling complementary techniques such as histochemistry and immunohistochemistry.
• Sample preparation for paraffin embedding, cryo-microtomy, vibratome sectioning, and related methods.
• Providing user training in paraffin techniques, cryo-microtomy, vibratome sectioning, immunohistochemistry, and complementary techniques.
• Collecting samples for DNA/RNA extraction using both kit-based methods and spatial transcriptomics.

Candidate Profile

• Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in Pathological Anatomy, Cytology and Thanatology, or Biomedical Laboratory Sciences, or other similar training considered suitable for the duties of the role.
• Strong interest in advancing skills in histology and molecular biology techniques.
• Good oral and written English skills, with excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
• Motivated and eager to learn in a dynamic research environment.
• Team work and communication skills.

Working Conditions Unfixed-Term Employment Contract – the contract has an estimated duration of 12 months and may be extended to a maximum of 4 years.
