Qualifications

• Mestre em Biomedicina, Bioinformática, Engenharia Biomédica, Engenharia de Computadores, Data Science ou similar.
• Bom domínio da língua inglesa (escrita e falada).
• Forte capacidade de trabalho em equipa e interesse em IA.
• Conhecimentos básicos de programação e/ou análise de dados são valorizados.
• Experiência de investigação em IA e trabalhos multidisciplinares são desejáveis.

Responsibilities

• Conduzir tarefas de investigação no âmbito do projecto ELFMO sob supervisão de docentes.
• Contribuir para o planeamento e desenvolvimento de atividades científicas.
• Colaborar na preparação de artigos e relatórios de investigação.
• Preparar documentação e manuais de software desenvolvidos no âmbito do projeto.
• Participar em reuniões de equipa e apoiar atividades de disseminação científica.

Offer Description

It is open the call for 2 positions for Research Fellowship (“Bolsas de Investigação”) for ELFMO Project – Ref: NORTE2030-FEDER-01673900 – 19224, co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through the Northern Portugal Regional Programme 2021–2027 [Norte2030] under Portugal2030, where the following conditions apply:

1.SCIENTIFIC AREA
Biomedicine, Bioinformatics, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Data Science, or related fields.

2.ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Minimum profile required: Holder of a MSc degree in Biomedicine, Bioinformatics, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Data Science, or related fields. Good written and oral communication skills in English. Strong teamwork skills. Interest in Artificial Intelligence. Basic knowledge of programming and/or data analysis, or motivation to develop these skills within the scope of the project. The candidate should also demonstrate an interest in applying Artificial Intelligence methods to multidisciplinary problems.
Preferred profile: Academic, professional, or research experience related to Artificial Intelligence and data analysis will be considered an asset. Scientific research skills, critical analysis of results, and experience in multidisciplinary projects will also be valued.

3.DURATION
The scholarship will last for 6 months, due to start in November 2026, and may be renewable up to the limit set out in the RBI-ISEP or until the end of the project, whichever comes first.

4.ACTIVITY OBJECT / WORK PLAN
The applicants should be motivated and experienced on computational methods for the use of Artificial Intelligence.
The work plan involves the following tasks:

• Design and computational implementation of methods, algorithms, and applications for the Portuguese use case;
• Specification and Development of the implementation of the Portuguese pilot;
• Active participation in meetings with advisors and research teams;
• Provision of all source code for the software developed within the scope of the exchange and user manuals for this software;
• Preparation of scientific articles and reports, including the final grant report;
• Activities related to communication and dissemination.

5.APPLICABLE LAWS AND REGULATIONS
Research Grant Holder Statute, approved by Law no. 40/2004, published in Official Gazette, Series I-A - no. 194 - 18th August 2004; Research Grant Regulations of the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia - FCT (Foundation for Science and Technology), approved by Regulation no. 950/2019, published in Official Gazette, Series II- Part C - no. 241 - 16th December 2019; Research Grant Regulations of ISEP approved by Regulation no. 495-A/2020, published in Official Gazette, Series II - no. 101 - 25th May 2020; Legal regime of recognition of academic degrees and diplomas of higher education awarded by foreign higher education institutions approved by Decree-Law no. 66/2018, published in Official Gazette, Series I - no. 157 - 16th August 2018; Decree-Law no. 60/2018, published in Official Gazette, Serie I - no. 149 - 3rd August 2018, which simplifies administrative procedures necessary for the pursuit of research and development activities, all in their current wording.

6.SCIENTIFIC ORIENTATION AND WORKPLACE
The work will be carried out at ISEP, located on Rua Dr. António Bernardino de Almeida, 431, 4200-072 Porto – Portugal, in the facilities used by the projects in which the work falls under the scientific guidance of Professor Diogo Martinho and Professor Goreti Marreiros.

8.SELECTION METHODS AND COMPOSITION OF SELECTION BOARD
The selection method will take into account the candidate's merit, classified according to their suitability for the conditions of this competition, and analyzed through the following components: final graduation classification (30%), Interview (20%), and curriculum vitae evaluation (50%).
The jury responsible for the selection process will be composed of:

• Professor Goreti Marreiros (Member);
• Professor Luís Conceição (Member);
• Professor Constantino Martins (Alternate Member).

9.FORM FOR SUBMITTING APPLICATIONS

• Curriculum Vitae;
• Motivation letter;
• Certificate of qualifications / Document proving the ownership of the academic degree and diploma, the respective recognition when it has been granted by foreign higher education institutions, or document proving the request for recognition;
• Proof of enrollment in study cycles leading to a doctor's degree.

If the qualification was granted by a foreign higher education institution, it must comply with the provisions of Decree-Law No. 66/2018, of August 16, and any formalities established there must be complied with until the moment of hiring.

10.DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS
Application period: from 23 October to 5 November 2026.

11.FORM OF PUBLICATION / NOTIFICATION OF RESULTS
The candidates will be individually notified by email message on the final evaluation results.

12.COMPLAINTS AND REDRESS PROCEDURES
If the result is unfavourable, the candidates have a period of 10 working days, after the publication of the results of the evaluation of applications, to give their opinion, if they so wish, in a prior hearing of interested parties, under the terms in the Código de Procedimento Administrativo (Adminstrative Procedure Code).

The final decision referred to in the preceding numbers may be appealed to the ISEP Director within 15 working days of the respective notification.

13.SELECTION REVERSE (OPTIONAL)
The ISEP reserves the right to use the candidates not selected, in order of seriation, for the recruitment of a grand holder within the scope of the same project due the withdrawal of the candidate initially selected.
