Sysmatch in Portugal seeks a data engineering professional to translate legacy SAS queries and SAS Query Builder logic into optimized SQL and Python solutions for ADP, reviewing and simplifying complex or outdated logic rather than migrating it as-is.

You will act as the technical bridge between business data analysts and the engineering team, ensuring cloud execution on Azure Synapse with proper filtering to minimize data scans and cloud costs, while collaborating on a prestigious international

Qualificações

• Strong SQL and Python development skills, including query optimization.
• Hands-on experience with Azure Synapse and cloud data environments.
• Minimum 2–3 years of experience.
• Start date: ideally September.
• Nice to have: SAS, Power BI, insurance/financial services experience.

Responsabilidades

• Analyze existing SAS queries and SAS Query Builder logic and translate them into optimized SQL and Python solutions for ADP.
• Act as the technical bridge between business data analysts and the engineering team, ensuring underlying code meets business intent.
• Ensure migrated solutions are optimized for Azure Synapse and cloud execution, with correct filtering to minimize data scans and cost.

What we are looking for

Goals and deliverables:

Analyzing existing SAS queries and SAS Query Builder logic inherited over several years, and translating them into optimized SQL and Python solutions for ADP — reviewing, challenging, and simplifying complex or outdated logic rather than migrating it as‑is.

Acting as the technical bridge between business data analysts and the engineering team: understanding the intended purpose of each report or process directly from business teams, then working solely on the underlying code, leaving business validation of content and outcomes to the business analysts.

Ensuring all migrated solutions are cost‑aware and optimized for cloud execution on Azure Synapse — applying correct filtering and access patterns to avoid unnecessary data scans and excessive cloud consumption, a key challenge during this migration.

Requirements:

• Strong SQL and Python development skills, including query optimization (mandatory)
• Hands‑on experience with Azure Synapse and cloud data environments (mandatory)
• Minimum 2–3 years of experience
• Start Date: Ideally September
• Nice to have: prior exposure to SAS, Power BI, insurance/financial services experience
