Yazaki Europe Middle East and Africa seeks a Checker Fixture Engineer at its Porto Technical Centre in Ovar to design, develop, validate, and improve electrical fixture systems for automotive wire harness testing.

The role translates product and testing requirements into robust, cost-effective fixtures, defines signal routing, selects components, and collaborates with electrical engineers to ensure seamless integration and compliance with standards.

Qualificações

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
• Fluent English; German could be an asset.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Responsabilidades

• Design, development, validation and continuous improvement of checker fixtures for automotive test.
• Define and validate device functionality, ergonomics and robustness.
• Create wiring diagrams and define signal routing for fixtures.
• Collaborate with electrical engineers to ensure integration and compliance.

Porto Technical Centre is the largest Yazaki global engineering services provider, that offers high-tech product development capabilities, translating customer specific needs into efficient production concepts, while consolidating and developing EDS expertise across plants on the Europe, Middle East and Africa region. We are currently seeking high potential candidates to join us through Checker Fixture Engineer team, reporting directly to the area supervisor.

Position Mission

Responsible for the design, development, validation, and continuous improvement of Checker Fixtures (C/F) for automotive wire harness testing. The role transforms product and testing requirements into robust, reliable, and cost-effective solutions that enable fast and accurate verification of continuity, pinning, electrical integrity, and component functionality. The position contributes to the creation of engineering standards, drives technical innovation, and supports the growth of a capability in Checker Fixture design and development.

Design new detection devices like electrical checker fixtures integrating mechanical and electrical systems.

Define and validate device functionality, ergonomics, and robustness.

Ensure compliance with customer specifications and internal standards.

Support prototyping and testing phases to confirm performance.

Create and maintain wiring diagrams and connector specifications.

Define signal routing and ensure proper electrical functionality.

Select appropriate components and materials for electrical systems.

Collaborate with electrical engineers to ensure seamless integration.

Technical Guidance & Clarification

• Provide technical support to internal teams during design and build phases.
• Clarify design intent and resolve technical queries.
• Support cross-functional teams in understanding fixture requirements.

Quality & Compliance

• Ensure fixtures meet functional and quality requirements.
• Participate in design reviews and validation processes.
• Support corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

• Academic Background
• Degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering
• Solid knowledge of MS Office, especially Excel (advanced level).
• Good knowledge of CAD tools, electrical design software and fixture validation processes ((e.g., CATIA, SolidWorks) and electrical design tools (e.g., EPLAN))
• Good knowledge Signal Routing & Connector Specs (Capable of defining and implementing signal paths and connector interfaces).
• Knowledge of quality tools: FMEA, PDCA and 8D methodology.
• Understanding of automotive engineering standards and product change management processes.
• Advanced English (spoken and written) and/or German.
• High attention to detail and accuracy.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for customer and stakeholder interaction.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
• Dynamism, resilience and self‑discipline.
• Strong time‑management and team‑working skills.
• Availability to travel if required.
