As a Senior Data Engineer, you will be working for our client, a leader in the retail and e-commerce industry dedicated to delivering trustworthy, high-quality data to fuel decision-making and business growth. Your expertise will ensure data pipelines are robust, reliable, and aligned with the highest quality standards, enabling smarter insights and seamless operations.
Your main responsibilities:
- Embed testing and validation into data transformations to uphold data integrity across pipelines.
- Define and implement quality gates, monitoring tools, and validation methods that enforce trustworthy and reproducible datasets.
- Design, maintain, and optimize well-structured, production-grade data assets, ensuring compliance with SLAs and data health standards.
- Conduct root-cause analysis to identify and resolve data issues efficiently, enhancing data reliability.
- Collaborate closely with analytics and business teams to translate requirements into verifiable data contracts and measurable quality outcomes.
- Improve documentation, observability, and alerting mechanisms to facilitate proactive data quality management.
- Integrate testing frameworks into CI/CD workflows, applying best QA practices to data engineering.
You're ideal for this role if you have:
- At least 3 years of experience in data engineering within retail or e-commerce sectors.
- Strong proficiency in SQL and data modeling, with familiarity in schema validations, constraints, and custom test logic.
- Hands-on experience with data quality testing, anomaly detection, and monitoring practices.
- Practical knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, version control, and integrating testing into workflows.
- Experience or interest in dbt and Snowflake (beneficial but not mandatory).
- Skills in debugging, performance tuning, and incident resolution in data pipelines.
- Knowledge of Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Bricks, and Azure SQL Database (must-have).
- Experience with ETL/ELT processes, Python, Terraform, and cloud data environments.
- Understanding of data modeling methodologies (Kimball, Inmon, Data Vault).
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
It is a strong plus if you have:
- Exposure to Power BI, Tableau, Spotfire.
- Experience with predictive modelling.
- Familiarity with security, privacy, and compliance issues in data environments.
