Job summary

mthree is recruiting a Senior Valuation Controller to join a leading global investment bank in Kraków. You will work in the Product Control function to independently value financial instruments and maintain valuation controls.

You will support IPV, assess fair value methodologies, and contribute to governance, data analysis and process improvements with Front Office, Quant Analytics, Market Risk and Technology. Strong Excel skills and fluent English are essential; CFA/FRM is a plus.

Qualifications

  • University degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering or another quantitative discipline.
  • Experience in Product Control, Valuation Control, Market Risk, Financial Control or another relevant function within financial services.
  • Strong understanding of financial instruments and valuation methodologies.
  • Knowledge of market risk factors and their impact on financial instrument valuation.
  • Understanding of fair value principles and valuation frameworks.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Excellent written and spoken English.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across multiple teams.
  • A proactive and detail-oriented approach, with a strong focus on controls and accuracy.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and oversee key valuation control activities for Global Markets portfolios.
  • Support the Independent Price Verification (IPV) process and related valuation control activities.
  • Review and analyse Fair Value Adjustments, Prudent Valuation Adjustments and other valuation-related reserves and controls.
  • Assess the appropriateness of valuation methodologies and contribute to their ongoing development and enhancement.
  • Analyse valuation model limitations, assumptions and recommendations, escalating issues where appropriate.
  • Support the development and strengthening of valuation governance and control frameworks.
  • Prepare management information and analysis for relevant governance and valuation committees.
  • Work closely with Product Control and Business Financial Control teams to support a consistent view of P&L and Balance Sheet performance.
  • Partner with Front Office, Quantitative Analytics, Market Risk, Technology, Operations and other control functions.
  • Identify opportunities to improve, standardise and automate existing valuation and control processes.
  • Contribute to process reengineering initiatives aimed at improving efficiency, scalability and service quality.
  • Support the implementation of regulatory, accounting and internal policy requirements relating to financial instrument valuation.

Job description

Our client, a leading global investment bank, is seeking a Senior Valuation Controller to join its Product Control function in Kraków.

The role sits within a specialist valuation team responsible for ensuring that financial instruments across Global Markets are independently assessed, accurately valued and subject to appropriate valuation controls.

This is an opportunity for a finance professional with a strong understanding of financial products, valuation methodologies and market risk to work closely with Front Office, Quantitative Analytics, Market Risk, Technology and other Product Control teams.

The successful candidate will contribute to the development and enhancement of valuation frameworks, controls and processes while supporting key financial and risk management activities.

Key Responsibilities

What We're Looking For

  • Understanding of Fair Value Levelling and related accounting requirements.
  • Experience working with valuation models and model limitations.
  • Knowledge of IFRS fair value accounting requirements.
  • Experience within Global Markets or Investment Banking.
  • Knowledge of VBA, SQL or Microsoft Access.
  • CFA or FRM qualification, either completed or in progress.
