Job summary

ZF Group seeks a Senior Software Development Engineer with Virtual ECU (vECU) specialization to drive virtual development and validation across automotive software projects.

You will act as the technical authority for vECU topics, define standards, design and maintain vECU environments, and mentor engineers while collaborating with AUTOSAR and DevOps teams. Fluent English and hybrid work are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electronics engineering, computer science, physics, mathematics, or related technical field.
• Several years of embedded software development, automotive software integration, or ECU development.
• Strong knowledge of AUTOSAR architecture and virtual ECU development.
• Proficiency in C/C++, scripting and automation technologies.
• Fluent in English.

Responsibilities

• Act as the primary technical authority for vECU topics across projects.
• Define standards and processes for Virtual ECU development and SiL environments.
• Design, develop, configure and maintain Virtual ECU environments for integration, testing and validation.
• Drive continuous improvement of virtual validation capabilities and workflows.
• Support SiL activities throughout the software development lifecycle.
• Interface with customers and stakeholders on virtualization strategies.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Software Development Engineer with Virtual ECU (vECU) specialization. In this role, you will serve as the key technical expert for vECU technologies, driving the adoption of Software-in-the-Loop (SiL) and virtual validation approaches across multiple automotive software projects. You will collaborate with software development, architecture, integration, validation and DevOps teams to enable scalable virtual development environments, support project execution, and coach engineering teams on vECU best practices. This position combines hands‑on engineering, technical leadership, process development, and cross‑functional stakeholder engagement.

• Several years of professional experience in embedded software development, automotive software integration, or ECU development.
• Strong knowledge of AUTOSAR architecture.
• Proven hands‑on experience with Virtual ECU development and/or Software-in-the-Loop environments.
• Understanding of embedded hardware concepts and microcontroller architectures.
• Proficiency in C/C++, scripting and automation technologies.
• Familiarity with Linux and embedded operating systems.
• Experience serving as a technical lead, senior specialist, or subject matter expert.
• Fluent in English.
