Job summary

Hitachi Energy is seeking an R&D Computational Fluid Dynamics Associate Engineer to join the Global Multi-Physic Simulation (GLOMUS) network. You will work with CFD analysts across electrical, structural, acoustic, thermo-mechanical and fluid-dynamics analyses and testing to support transformers and related equipment.

You will develop analytical tools, run CFD simulations, and contribute to numerical models, standards, and training materials for R&D-to-engineering transfer across factories

Qualifications

• PhD or MSc in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or a closely related field.
• Strong hands-on experience in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and thermo-mechanical simulations.
• Advanced proficiency in numerical methods for thermodynamic and heat transfer simulations.
• Experience with industry-standard tools such as ANSYS CFX/FLUENT, OpenFOAM, COMSOL and StarCCM+.
• Solid knowledge of programming and scripting for model development, automation, and post-processing.
• Understanding of Fluid–Structure Interaction (FSI) theory and multiphysics coupling.
• Willingness to travel and fluency in English are required.

Responsibilities

• Create and improve analytical tools and CFD automations for thermo-fluid analysis in electrical machines such as transformers and reactors.
• Propose technical solutions for transformers and reactors ensuring they meet standards and performance expectations.
• Update and maintain technical standards for thermo-mechanical performance of transformers.
• Collaborate within the GLOMUS network to deliver mult-physics FEM methodologies for coupled problems.
• Design and conduct experimental campaigns to validate numerical models.
• Provide support to factories and facilitate knowledge transfer from R&D to engineering.
• Carry out CFD simulations for cooling systems in transformers and assess feasibility of new concepts.
