Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a senior embedded hardware engineer focused on drone systems. You will design hardware architectures, select components, and plan system integration for high-reliability UAV platforms.

You will optimize embedded software for controllers and companion computers, test prototypes, and collaborate with manufacturing to ensure scalable production and quality control throughout the lifecycle.

Job description

• Design and develop hardware architectures for drone systems, including component selection, layout considerations, and system-level integration planning


• Develop and optimize embedded software for companion computers, microcontrollers, flight controllers, and other hardware components


• Ensure efficient resource utilization and real-time performance


• Build and test hardware prototypes


• Conduct performance evaluations and iterate designs to meet product specifications and reliability standards


• Collaborate with manufacturing teams to streamline production processes and develop assembly procedures


• Ensure quality control throughout the manufacturing lifecycle


• Work with hardware vendors and suppliers to specify requirements and evaluate components


• Oversee integration of third-party hardware solutions


• Bridge hardware capabilities and software requirements


• Ensure seamless communication between embedded systems and higher-level autonomy software


• Create technical specifications, hardware design documents, and integration guides


• Implement testing protocols for hardware reliability, environmental durability, and compliance with industry standards and regulations


• Evaluate and communicate the long-term impact of technical decisions on the product roadmap


• Identify architectural trade-offs and contribute to the technical direction of the product


• Participate in the hiring process: intro call, technical interview, management interview, and offer stages

Requirements

• Expert-level technical expertise


• Hands-on experience with hardware, microcontrollers, and operating systems for embedded platforms


• Experience with Embedded Linux is a significant advantage


• Demonstrated experience with UAV technologies, including flight controllers, communication protocols such as MAVLink, and autopilots such as ArduPilot/PX4


• Expert-level skills in networking, including OSI layers, firewalls, and routing


• Expert-level skills in Linux, Shell scripting, Docker, Python, and SQL/NoSQL databases


• Experience with C/C++ and IoT communication protocols is a plus


• RF engineering knowledge is advantageous


• Familiarity with Raspberry Pi and flight controllers such as Matek and OrangeCube


• Proven track record of planning, executing, and documenting complex hardware/software system integrations


• Ability to articulate technical concepts clearly to technical and non-technical audiences


• Deep understanding of full product and system architecture


• Ability to generate architectural solutions and reason holistically across the full stack


• Great analytical and problem-solving skills


• Professional working proficiency in English (application CV must be submitted in English)


• Ability to undergo additional background checks in accordance with applicable EU laws and regulations
