Job description

ATMOS Works is seeking a hands-on Field Test Engineer (m/f/d) who thrives in outdoor environments, is comfortable taking systems apart and putting them back together, and can confidently bridge the gap between our engineering teams and our customers. You will be the critical link between what is designed in the lab and what actually works in the field.

Key responsibilities
  • Field Testing & Validation
    • You will plan, conduct, and evaluate system tests under real-world operating conditions, including terrain, weather, and payload.
    • You will perform systematic fault diagnosis and detailed documentation of hardware and software defects.
    • You will validate new prototypes and execute regression tests following engineering or software changes.
    • You will operate and maintain test equipment, including telemetry systems, data loggers, and test benches.
  • Maintenance & Technical Operations
    • You will independently carry out servicing, repair, and modification work on the systems.
    • You will replace and calibrate drives, sensors, avionics components, and structural parts.
    • You will create and maintain technical documentation, including inspection records, maintenance reports, and checklists.
    • You will ensure full operational readiness and system safety before and after every field deployment.
  • Interface with Engineering & Design
    • You will work closely with design engineers and developers to feed back field findings, anomalies, and improvement ideas.
    • You will provide field-perspective assessments of change requests and contribute to solution development.
    • You will actively participate in design reviews and sprint retrospectives as the voice of field testing.
    • You will prepare structured test result reports, including data plots, video analysis, and written summaries.
  • Customer Support & Field Accompaniment
    • You will support customers during acceptance tests and customer-specific field trial campaigns.
    • You will act as the on-site technical point of contact, representing ATMOS Works professionally at all times.
    • You will train and brief customers on system operation, maintenance procedures, and safety protocols.
    • You will produce customer-ready test reports and formal acceptance documentation.
Profile required
  • - Completed technical degree or vocational qualification in aerospace engineering, mechatronics, electrical engineering, or a comparable field.
  • - Demonstrable hands-on experience with unmanned aerial systems or comparable autonomous platforms.
  • - Working knowledge of avionics, electric drive systems, and flight control software (e.g. ArduPilot, Betaflight or equivalent).
  • - Confident use of measurement and testing equipment; experience with data analysis tools (e.g. MATLAB, Python, Excel).
  • - Valid operating authorization for unmanned aerial systems (EU category A2 or higher), or willingness to obtain one.
  • - Strong communication skills with the ability to translate technical findings clearly for both engineering teams and non-technical customers.
  • - Willingness to travel approximately 40–60% of working time, both domestically and internationally
  • Fluent in English (written and spoken).
  • - Valid Class B driving license.
  • *EU nationality is required.
Preferred qualifications
  • - Prior experience in the aerospace industry or in safety-critical autonomous systems environments.
  • - Familiarity with CAD tools (SolidWorks, CATIA) for participation in design change discussions.
  • - Experience working within Agile / SCRUM frameworks in a hardware development context.
  • - Background in military or defence.
  • - Experience compiling airworthiness documentation.
