The Senior Onsite IT Support Engineer will serve as the primary IT representative at designated sites, providing critical deskside and operational technology support. This role is pivotal in maintaining seamless IT operations within manufacturing and shopfloor environments, ensuring minimal downtime, and delivering exceptional customer service. The successful candidate will troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and network issues, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and drive end-to-end accountability for IT incident resolution, thereby contributing directly to the operational excellence and business continuity of HCLTech’s clients.
Detailed Responsibilities
- Set up, troubleshoot, and maintain printers, faxes, copiers, RF guns, and phone equipment in office and shopfloor environments.
- Diagnose and resolve network connectivity issues, hardware, and software problems for desktops, laptops, notebooks, mobile devices (iOS/Android), rugged tablets, and industry-grade peripherals.
- Provide “smart hands” support for infrastructure and operational technology (OT) devices, including PLCs, manufacturing plant IT systems, flat-network devices, Zebra label printers, and RF scanners.
- Act as the site’s primary IT leader (“Face of IT”), proactively identifying, escalating, and resolving issues in collaboration with the broader HCLTech team to minimize downtime.
- Deliver frontline support for shopfloor hardware and software, ensuring prompt resolution and operational continuity.
- Manage and maintain data closets, ensuring cleanliness, security, and effective supervision of onsite activities.
- Perform daily health checks and reporting on critical IT infrastructure hardware and servers.
- Coordinate with IT and OT vendors to ensure sustained site operations.
- Communicate proactively with stakeholders on critical IT issues, maintaining transparency and timely updates.
- Lead resolution of critical site issues (P1s), drive accountability, and ensure timely incident closure with minimal disruption.
- Enhance customer and employee satisfaction through prompt and effective IT support.
- Conduct asset inventory on IT and infrastructure devices as required.
- Adhere to service level agreements (SLAs) and ITIL process workflows.
- Handle tickets and requests via ServiceNow, troubleshoot reported problems, and document resolutions.
- Create and maintain documentation for processes, procedures, and knowledge base (KB) articles.
- Report to the HCL Track Lead / Team Lead and participate in regular operational reviews.
Skill Requirements
- Minimum 7 years dedicated hands-on experience in deskside/onsite IT support or as a local IT engineer.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Operating System installation (Windows 10, MAC OS X) and troubleshooting.
- Proven expertise in hands & feet support for network and datacenter equipment/devices.
- Strong desktop support skills including hardware, software, and networking concepts.
- Proficiency in hardware-level troubleshooting for desktops, laptops, notebooks, printers, and handhelds.
- In-depth understanding of iOS, Android OS, rugged devices (tablets, iPads), and mobile device support.
- Familiarity with Windows image build processes and SCCM deployments.
- Working knowledge of SCCM, Intune, Active Directory (AD), and JAMF.
- Experience supporting RF scanners and industry-level label printers (e.g., Zebra).
- Hands-on knowledge of OT technologies such as PLCs and manufacturing plant IT systems.
- Experience with managed print services and corporate/network printers.
- Good understanding of audio/video equipment and conference room setups.
- Proficient in user account creation for Active Directory, Exchange Mailboxes, and Distribution Lists.
- Experience with remote desktop connectivity tools (SMS, Bomgar, WebEx, Live Meeting, Windows Native tools).
- Ability to troubleshoot and assist end users with mobile device setup, activations, and performance issues.
- Strong customer service orientation with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Good documentation skills and process adherence.
- High adaptability and resilience to unforeseen situations.
- Knowledge of ITIL ticketing tools (ServiceNow, BMC Remedy) and ITIL concepts (change process, problem, incident, and request tickets).
