Job summary

N-iX is seeking a Lead DevOps Engineer to drive a time-boxed cloud migration and security-hardening initiative. The role blends SRE/operations with hands-on development, focusing on migrating services to AWS, implementing EKS, and strengthening security across multiple teams.

The ideal candidate will be adept with Terraform, Kubernetes, Docker, and CI/CD using GitHub Actions, while communicating effectively in English and aligning with Toronto timezone hours.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of commercial DevOps experience.
• Strong hands-on experience with AWS in production environments.
• Proven experience with Kubernetes and AWS EKS.
• Practical experience with Docker and containerized workloads.
• Strong Terraform and infrastructure-as-code skills.
• Experience with cloud migration projects (Azure to AWS) and re-platforming.
• Solid understanding of AWS networking, IAM, security groups, load balancing.
• Practical experience with security remediation (secrets, keys, dependencies).
• Experience with GitHub Actions or similar CI/CD tools.
• Ability to work across multiple teams and codebases.
• Familiarity with PHP, Python, or TypeScript is beneficial for collaboration.
• Fluency with Codex or AI-assisted coding tools.
• Excellent English communication skills.
• Ability to work during Toronto timezone business hours with EST/EDT overlap.

Responsibilities

• Migrate existing services from Azure to AWS.
• Design, implement, and maintain cloud infrastructure using Terraform.
• Work with AWS EKS, Kubernetes, Docker, and containerized workloads.
• Configure and maintain AWS networking, including VPCs, subnets, security groups, IAM, and load balancing.
• Support migration activities across AWS accounts, environments, and engineering teams.
• Identify and remediate security issues related to secrets, keys, dependencies, and infrastructure configuration.
• Apply security fixes, patches, and dependency updates.
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation using GitHub Actions.
• Work with observability tools including Datadog, New Relic, and Grafana during migration.
• Make application-level configuration or code changes to support migration and security.
• Collaborate with development, platform, and infrastructure teams to coordinate migration with minimal disruption.
• Document infrastructure changes, migration procedures, and security remediation work.
• Use AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity and delivery speed.
