BEC Financial Technologies in Warszawa is seeking a skilled Java backend engineer to join our Technology Transformation Program. You will design and implement Java-based integrations for core banking services, collaborate with analysts and architects, and contribute to scalable, reliable software in a regulated environment.

You will work on RESTful APIs, Kafka-based integrations, and containerized deployments using Docker and OpenShift, while mentoring juniors and driving architectural

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain Java backend solutions within CORE BANKING domain.
• Design, implement, and evolve RESTful APIs and integration solutions.
• Collaborate with Business Analysts, Product Owner, QA, architects, and other developers to clarify requirements and deliver high quality solution.
• Contribute to solution design, code reviews, and architectural discussions to ensure clean, maintainable, and robust solutions.
• Take responsibility for ensuring stability, performance, and quality of the systems owned by the team.
• Actively participate in Scrum ceremonies and contribute to continuous improvement of team practices.
• Support analysis, troubleshooting, and refinement of existing solutions as the platform evolves.

Job description

The domain consists of six agile teams responsible for some of the most business-critical systems in the bank, forming the backbone of daily financial operations. The Technology Transformation Program aims to renew a large portion of BEC’s current products where some of them are on an aging technology stack into updated and modern technologies.
You will work on backend services that support fee, bank, and product configuration within our core banking platform. In your day-to-day work, you will design and implement Java-based integrations, integrate with internal and external banking systems through Kafka subscription models and REST/SOAP APIs, and collaborate closely with business analysts and architects to translate complex financial logic into clean, maintainable code. You will participate in code reviews, contribute to technical decisions, and help shape how we build reliable, scalable software for a regulated industry. Mentoring junior developers and sharing knowledge across the team will also be part of the role.
Your direct manager will be Marlene Godsk Larsen on an interim basis while Karen Mari Storgaard Thielsen is on maternity leave until 1 December.
Primary tasks and responsibilities include:

• Develop and maintain business critical Java backend solutions within CORE BANKING domain
• Design, implement, and evolve RESTful APIs and Integration SOLUTIONS
• Collaborate closely with Business Analysts, Product Owner, QA, architects, and other developers to clarify requirements and deliver high quality solution
• Contribute to solution design, code reviews, and architectural discussions to ensure clean, maintainable, and robust solutions
• Take responsibility for ensuring stability, performance, and quality of the systems owned by the team
• Actively participate in Scrum ceremonies and contribute to continuous improvement of team practices
• Support analysis, troubleshooting, and refinement of existing solutions as the platform evolves

To succeed you will have:

• Experience with building backend applications in Java with Spring Boot and Spring Core
• Strong understanding of JPA/Hibernate and relational databases — you write efficient SQL and understand data modeling
• Hands-on experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs and SOAP web services
• Comfort working with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and containerized deployments using Docker and OpenShift
• Experience with message-driven architecture using Kafka or IBM MQ
• Familiarity with the software development lifecycle in an Agile environment
• An ability to work independently, take ownership of features end to end, and communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders

It’s nice-to-have:

• Experience with Domain Driven Design (DDD)
• Experience with Kafka, IBM MQ, or similar messaging technologies
• Experience with test driven development (TDD) and automated testing frameworks such as Spock/Groovy, JUnit, or similar.
• Experience with cloud platform like azure, aws, gcp
• Familiarity with legacy integrations (e.g. SOAP/XML) or mainframe adjacent landscapes
