Senior Software Engineer (I*Net Basement)

Join our Application Security & I*Net Basement Team and help modernize one of BEC’s strategic platforms. I*Net provides the foundation for several dozen Java web applications and is at the heart of our transformation towards modern architecture.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will help evolve the platform beyond migration by improving its scalability, performance and operational maturity. You will work across multiple engineering disciplines to deliver platform enhancements, coordinate modernization initiatives and ensure I*Net is ready to support the next generation applications. This is an opportunity to influence technology that enables development teams across BEC while solving engineering challenges in a highly regulated financial environment.

Primary tasks and responsibilities include:

• Design, develop and maintain I*Net framework components supporting the organization's application modernization strategy.
• Drive the I*Net platform migration from IBM WebSphere to Red Hat OpenShift, including performance optimization, scalability and production readiness.
• Collaborate with infrastructure teams supporting both WebSphere and OpenShift, as well as application development teams across BEC, to coordinate the production rollout.
• Optimize resource utilization and system integrations in a containerized OpenShift environment.
• Support adoption of I*Net framework across development teams and provide technical guidance during platform modernization.
• Ensure platform solutions comply with BEC engineering standards, security requirements and regulatory frameworks applicable to enterprise financial systems.

To succeed you will have:

• 5+ years of experience in Java application development, including modern Java versions up to Java 21.
• Experience with modernization of enterprise applications or migration to container-based platforms such as Red Hat OpenShift or Kubernetes.
• Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines, including tools such as Jenkins and Argo CD, and build automation tools such as Gradle and Maven.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify root causes across application and infrastructure layers, including application performance, scalability and resource consumption.
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments and the ability to coordinate technical activities involving multiple development teams.

It's nice to have:

• Experience with decomposition and re-design of large monolithic applications.
• Experience working in highly regulated industries such as banking and finance.
• Understanding software governance, compliance requirements and secure software development practices.
• Exposure to integration with mainframe systems.
