Job summary

Thomson Reuters is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel & Privacy Operations Lead to join the General Counsel’s Office. The role blends deep legal and regulatory expertise with hands-on privacy operations, serving as Chief of Staff to the CPO and leading global privacy program governance.

You will drive strategic initiatives, oversee budgets and vendor management, and coordinate cross-functional efforts with Legal, IT, Security, and Product to advance privacy maturity and compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in law or equivalent; JD or Master’s degree in legal studies.
• 8–10+ years in privacy law, tech privacy operations, and program management.
• 4–6+ years leading technical/legal teams and advising executives.
• Certification in privacy/cybersecurity (e.g., CIPM, CISSP) desired.
• Experience with privacy risk assessments (PIA/DPIA/TIA).
• Knowledge of GDPR, CCPA, PIPEDA and related regulations.

Responsibilities

• Act as the CPO’s strategic partner, driving high-priority privacy initiatives.
• Oversee governance budgets, vendor management, and team rhythms.
• Prepare executive briefs and board-level reporting on privacy posture.
• Lead cross-functional alignment across Legal, IT, Security, and Product.
• Drive end-to-end privacy program governance and roadmap.
• Coordinate responses to DSARs and privacy audits.
• Support privacy incident response and breach notification processes.
• Develop privacy by design guidance with product and engineering teams.
