Job summary

Sweco Design Center Poland, part of the Sweco Group, hires a Geotechnical Engineer to lead geotechnical design and FEM analyses for infrastructure projects. You will design piles, ground anchors, and slope stability elements, supervise construction activities, and coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams across Poland.

Hybrid work is available for Poland-based employees. The role requires a degree in Geotechnical Engineering or Hydrogeology and 5+ years’ experience, with strong FEM software

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering or Hydrogeology.
  • 5+ years of professional geotechnical engineering experience.
  • Strong knowledge of FEM and soil-structure interaction.
  • Very good English communication (written and spoken).

Responsibilities

  • Lead the geotechnical design process for multiple projects, including detailed design drawings and control reports.
  • Conduct advanced geotechnical analyses using FEM software focusing on soil-structure interaction.
  • Design geotechnical structures such as pile foundations, secant pile walls, sheet piles, and ground anchors.
  • Oversee construction supervision and quality control of geotechnical elements on site.
  • Coordinate with multi-disciplinary project teams to ensure integrated design and execution.
  • Contribute to proposals and bids and support business development when required.
  • Manage project resources, schedules, and budgets to deliver high-quality work within timelines and costs.

The Sweco Design Center Poland operates as an internal design center within the Sweco Group. It specializes in providing expert services in planning, engineering, architecture, and design across diverse sectors, including infrastructure, transportation, urban planning, construction, energy, manufacturing, and IT systems. The Design Center currently collaborates with three countries: Sweden, Norway and Denmark.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead the geotechnical design process for various projects, including the creation of detailed design drawings, execution descriptions, and control reports;
  • Conduct advanced geotechnical analysis using Finite Element Method (FEM) software, focusing on soil-structure interaction and advanced material models;
  • Design geotechnical structures such as pile foundations, secant pile walls, sheet piles, slope stability solutions, and ground anchors;
  • Oversee geotechnical aspects of construction, including on-site supervision and quality control of ground anchors, piles, and other geotechnical elements;
  • Coordinate with project teams, including engineers from other disciplines, to ensure an integrated approach to project design and execution;
  • Contribute to the preparation of proposals and bids, and support business development activities when required;
  • Manage project resources, schedules, and budgets to deliver high-quality work within agreed timelines and costs.
What type of projects will you work with:

Main clients are large public infrastructure clients and the leading contractors. We work on geotechnical investigations for all sorts of projects, building foundations design, energy infrastructure design, construction pit design, railway design, road design, port design.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering or Hydrogeology field;
  • 5+ years of professional experience in geotechnical engineering. Previous expertise in hydrogeological engineering is optional;
  • Proficiency in software such as Plaxis / Slope/W / ABAQUS / LPILE / Optum CE / AutoCAD;
  • In-depth knowledge of the Finite Element Method (FEM), in advanced material models and soil-structure interaction;
  • Experience with soil parameter evaluations, especially through advanced laboratory testing, such as oedometer tests (consolidation tests) and triaxial tests;
  • Strong experience in the design and project engineering of geotechnical structures, such as pile foundations, secant pile walls, sheet piles, slope stability, and ground anchors;
  • Expertise in construction supervision, including inspection and verification of ground anchors and pile tests;
  • Very good communication skills in English (written and spoken).
  • Nice to have: hydrogeological assessments and analysis (including MODFLOW), covering drawdown calculations, soil water flow modeling, and the specification and monitoring of groundwater lowering systems.
