Job summary

OBI Smart Technologies, a joint venture between OBI and Reply Group, is seeking a backend engineer to develop scalable backend services and integrations in the assortment management domain within a large retail ecosystem.

You will work in a hybrid Katowice setting, using Kotlin and Spring Boot, Kafka, and PostgreSQL to deliver reliable, scalable systems and collaborate with product and engineering teams.

Qualifications

• Completed university degree in Computer Science or a comparable technical field.
• 3–5 years of professional backend development experience using Kotlin or Java with Spring Boot.
• Strong understanding of REST APIs, microservices, and distributed systems.
• Hands-on experience with Kafka or similar messaging systems.
• Experience with PostgreSQL and reliable data modeling.
• Familiarity with CI/CD, containerization, and basic security concepts (OAuth 2.0, IAM).
• Excellent English and Polish communication, hybrid work in Katowice.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain backend services, APIs, and integrations using Kotlin and Spring Boot.
• Translate business data requirements into scalable backend solutions.
• Contribute to event-driven architectures and asynchronous processing with Kafka.
• Support cloud-native and containerized backend environments.
• Design and maintain data models and persistence in PostgreSQL.
• Collaborate with product, business, and engineering teams to refine requirements.
• Contribute to code quality, testing, observability, and reliability.
