Contour Software is seeking an enthusiastic Technical Writer to bridge complex technical information and user-friendly content. You will create release notes, help content, feature descriptions, and in-app messages, working closely with developers to ensure accuracy and clarity.

You will document enhancements and releases, maintain user guides, and help resources while adhering to established style guides. Collaboration with cross-functional teams is essential for success.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Technical Communication or related field.
• 5 years of experience as a Technical Writer, Documentarian, Content Specialist, or related role, preferably in software development.
• Solid understanding of SDLC in an Agile environment; familiarity with JIRA/Azure DevOps and sprint/release boards.

Responsibilities

• Create user content for release notes, help websites, feature descriptions, and in-app messages.
• Collaborate with development teams to ensure content accuracy and alignment with user needs.
• Review development changes and translate them into user-friendly documentation tasks.
• Develop and maintain content for new features and existing software products.

Job Summary

As a Technical Writer, you will play a pivotal role in bridging the gap between complex technical information and user-friendly content. You will create content for end users, including release notes, help websites, new feature descriptions, screen text, and in-app messages. You will work closely with the development team to ensure that every piece of content is accurate, comprehensive, and tailored to our audience's needs.

Required Abilities

This person is responsible for all aspects of producing user content for a development product and must therefore have a demonstrated ability and a history of successfully completing the following.

• Prompt Engineering: Use prompt engineering in AI systems to extract information from codebases.
• Self-Assignment: Review development changes and create documentation tasks based on those changes.
• Work Independently: Understand what is required to document enhancements and releases.
• Content Creation: Develop and maintain user content and help resources for new features to existing software products and brand-new software products.
• Translate Technical Information: Understand how to interpret development information in JIRA tickets and create user content and step-by-step instructions.
• Content Organization: Structure content logically and intuitively to ensure that users can find the information they need quickly and easily.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Build relationships with software developers, programmers, QA analysts, support analysts, product managers, professional services, and other stakeholders to gather information and complete reviews.
• Implement Best Practices: Review and implement documentation standards, including style guides, templates, and documentation processes and procedures.

Qualifications

• Software Development: Solid understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC) in an Agile environment. This includes using ticketing software such as JIRA and/or Azure DevOps, as well as working with team boards for sprints and releases.
• Degree: Bachelor’s degree in Technical Communication, Training in Technical Communication.
• Experience Level: 5 years of experience as a Technical Writer, Documentarian, Content Specialist, or related role, preferably in software development.
• Technical Skills: MadCap Flare (preferred) and other HTML/XML editors, Markdown editing, advanced Microsoft Word skills (for creating user and quick start guides), and Azure DevOps.
