Job summary

Contour Software in Karachi is hiring a Microsoft Word Developer/Architect to design and build next-generation Word automation tools using OfficeJS and modern web technologies.

You will work with our USA headquarters, translate wireframes into production code, mentor teammates, and help shape capabilities across Word, Outlook, and related Office products for enterprise clients.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience in Microsoft Word development using OfficeJS and modern Web frameworks.
• Strong knowledge of Word internals and related technologies.
• Able to translate wireframes into working code and suggest improvements.

Responsibilities

• Migrate Word add-in functionality to Web-based interfaces and design new capabilities via public APIs.
• Act as internal SME on design/usage patterns for Microsoft 365 integrations.
• Mentor other BEC developers on coding best practices for Word/Office development.
• Ensure code quality through reviews and active team discussions.

The Division

BEC Legal Systems develops enterprise software for law firms and corporate legal departments. Our solutions automate group calendaring, docketing, and task management in Outlook, improve document production and formatting in Word, and provide central matter and contact management in both Word and Outlook. BEC recently announced its latest product, CoreRelate, a modern, Web‑based, multitenant case management and docketing solution built upon a public REST API. All these products are tailored to the unique needs of law firms and are customizable for the specific needs of any law firm.

The Position

We are hiring for a Microsoft Office Developer/Architect position. The successful candidate will work closely with developers and product teams at our USA headquarters to design and build the next generation of Microsoft Word document automation tools using OfficeJS and Web technologies. This could be classified as an Architect position for a candidate with the right combination of skills and legal document automation experience. The successful hire will work from the Contour Software Karachi office as part of the resource‑center team that is an extension of the division‑based R&D department.

Job Responsibilities

• Work with BEC developers and product managers to migrate current Microsoft Word add‑in functionality to new Web‑based interfaces, and to design and introduce new capabilities that leverage our new public API platforms
• Become an internal subject matter expert on design and usage patterns for BEC applications that integrate with Microsoft 365; evaluate current application capabilities and suggest and/or design future enhancements and products
• Mentor other BEC developers regarding coding techniques and best practices for modern Word and Office development
• Ensure product quality, consistency, and performance through code reviews and by actively participating in team discussions

Required Skills

• Extensive experience in Microsoft Word development using OfficeJS and modern Web frameworks such as Angular and/or React
• Excellent working knowledge of WordML/OpenXML, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript/TypeScript
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word internals and concepts, such as styles, content controls, numbering, bookmarks, TOC/TOA, etc.
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to accurately translate provided wireframes and mockups into working code, and to suggest improvements and/or alternate approaches where appropriate

Preferred Skills

• Experience building products for the legal vertical; good understanding of law firm requirements for document production
• Experience building and maintaining API‑based integrations, such as integration with cloud document management systems
• Experience with, or understanding of, Office development for Outlook and Teams
• Strong experience with AI‑assisted development techniques

Nice‑to‑have

• Good understanding of UI/UX principles, with experience in UI design
• Experience designing and building applications using VBA (Visual Basic for Applications)
