Responsibilities

  • Actively monitor ISP, WAN, MPLS, and internet links; coordinate with telecom providers to resolve outages.
  • Monitor the health, performance, and status of routers, switches, and firewalls.
  • Oversee servers, NAS/storage, and environment metrics; be on-site for critical maintenance overnight.
  • Monitor EMS for critical alerts on temperature, humidity, water leakage, and airflow.
  • Oversee UPS, PDU loads, and generator readiness to ensure power redundancy.
  • Track server room access and security alerts during night hours.
  • Acknowledge and triage alerts from monitoring tools (PRTG, SolarWinds) within SLA.
  • Document incidents, changes, and requests in the ticketing system with accuracy.
  • Act as primary coordinator for critical incidents and escalate unresolved issues per matrix.
  • Perform morning pre-flight checks at 5:00 AM to ensure critical apps and databases are operational.

Job Description
  • Actively monitor ISP, WAN, MPLS, and internet links for latency, packet loss, or outages. Coordinate immediately with telecom providers to resolve link failures.
  • Monitor the health, performance, and status of routers, switches, and firewalls.
  • Keep a close eye on physical and virtual servers CPU, memory, storage utilization, and service status. Act as the on-site point of contact for emergency facilities maintenance e.g., HVAC technicians, UPS engineers if critical environmental thresholds are breached overnight.
  • Monitor the Environmental Monitoring System EMS for critical alerts regarding temperature, humidity, water leakage, and airflow.
  • Oversee UPS Uninterruptible Power Supply status, PDU loads, and generator readiness alerts to ensure power redundancy is never compromised.
  • Monitor server room access logs and physical security alerts during the quiet hours.
  • Acknowledge and triage alerts generated by monitoring tools PRTG,SolarWinds within strict SLA timelines.
  • Perform regular virtual walk-throughs of network equipment logs to catch hardware degradation e.g., optical power levels on SFPs, fan failures before they cause outages.
  • Document all incidents, changes, and requests in the ticketing system with high accuracy.
  • Act as the primary coordinator for critical incidents. Promptly escalation unresolved complex issues to System/Network Administrator according to the established escalation matrix.
  • Execute a morning pre-flight check at the end of the shift e.g., 5:00 AM to ensure all critical business applications, portals, and databases are fully operational before the daytime staff logs in.
  • Actively track NAS storage capacity and alert the systems team when disk utilisation on critical servers exceeds warning thresholds.
  • Monitor and verify the successful completion of scheduled nightly data backups and replication jobs; troubleshoot and restart failed jobs immediately to meet Data Recovery Objectives RPOs.
  • Conduct thorough morning handovers to the incoming day shift team, detailing all night-time incidents, pending tickets, and ongoing maintenance activities.
