Job summary

Baker's Fair & Foodmart Inc. is seeking a Utilities Engineer to own and optimize the facility's water and chemical cycles. You will generate critical utilities (HOCl and RO water), supervise the Crate Washing Team, and, upon accreditation, serve as Pollution Control Officer (PCO).

The role includes ensuring water quality, maintaining filtration systems, and adhering to environmental standards set by DENR. A relevant engineering degree and 3+ years in utilities are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field.
• 3+ years in industrial utilities or water/wastewater systems.
• Experience with piping networks or fluid distribution.
• Previous supervision of a small operations team.
• PRC license is an advantage but not required.
• Basic PCO training is an advantage.
• Willing to be trained and accredited as Pollution Control Officer.
• Energy management certification (ECO/CEM) is an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Operate electrolytic cells to produce HOCl at required pH and ppm levels.
• Monitor piping network and pumps delivering HOCl to buildings.
• Record daily HOCl usage by building and investigate variances.
• Maintain pre-filters, media filters, and membranes; monitor water quality.
• Create/update Process Flow Diagrams for water/chemical paths.
• Manage wastewater treatment to meet DENR standards.
• Perform weekly churn tests and annual flow tests on fire pumps.
• Implement preventive maintenance for all utility equipment.
• Oversee Crate Washing Team operations.
• Handle DENR-EMB requirements, including SMR/CMR where applicable.

About the role

We are looking for a Utilities Engineer to act as the "process owner" of our facility's entire water and chemical cycle. You will be responsible for the generation of critical utilities (RO water and HOCl), their distribution to the facility buildings, and their final treatment at the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP). In addition to technical operations and maintenance, you will oversee the Crate Washing Team and, once accredited, serve as the company's Pollution Control Officer (PCO) and handle the company's energy compliance requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Operate the electrolytic cells to produce hypochlorous acid at the required pH and ppm levels, including brine preparation and electrode cleaning
• Monitor the piping network and transfer pumps that deliver HOCl to the various buildings
• Record daily HOCl consumption per building and investigate spikes or drops in usage
• Maintain the pre-filters, media filters, and membranes, and monitor water quality (TDS) to ensure a steady supply of purified water for production and chemical generation
• Create and update Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) showing how water and chemicals travel from the utility room to every point of use in the facility
• Manage the treatment of all facility wastewater, including the grease traps, septic tank, aerators, and transfer pumps, so that treated effluent meets DENR standards
• Perform weekly churn tests and annual flow tests on the diesel/electric fire pumps, and make sure the jockey pump maintains steady line pressure for emergency readiness
• Implement and follow a preventive maintenance (PM) schedule for all utility equipment, including pumps, blowers, valves, piping, and control panels
• Oversee the manpower and daily output of the Crate Washing Team
• Handle all DENR-EMB requirements, including discharge permits, hazardous waste management, quarterly Self-Monitoring Reports (SMR), and Compliance Monitoring Reports (CMR) where applicable

About you

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Sanitary, Electrical, or Environmental Engineering, or a related course
• 3+ years in industrial utilities or water/wastewater systems
• Experience with piping networks or fluid distribution
• Previous experience supervising a small operations team
• Ability to look at a change in salt usage and relate it to a leak in Building B or an overflowing tank in the Crate Wash area
• PRC license is an advantage but not required
• Completed Basic PCO Training is an advantage
• Must be willing to be trained and accredited as the company's Pollution Control Officer
• Energy Conservation Officer (ECO) or Certified Energy Manager (CEM) certification is an advantage
