Sales Development Representative (SDR/BDR)
Outbound Lead Generation | Prospecting | Appointment Setting | Demo Scheduling
Job Type: Full-time
Department: Sales / Business Development
Reports To: Sales Manager / Head of Sales
Job Overview
We are looking for a highly motivated and results-driven Sales Development Representative (SDR/BDR) to build and manage our outbound sales pipeline.
This is a hunter role. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying and researching potential prospects, generating their own leads, initiating outbound conversations, qualifying opportunities, and scheduling qualified prospects for sales demos or discovery calls.
This is not a passive lead-follow-up or inbound appointment-setting position. You will be expected to proactively find new prospects and create opportunities through cold calling, email, LinkedIn/social outreach, lead databases, and other outbound channels.
Key Responsibilities
Prospecting & Lead Generation
- Research and identify target companies, decision-makers, and potential customers within assigned markets.
- Build and continuously expand a qualified prospect list using LinkedIn, company websites, databases, directories, CRM data, and other lead-generation tools.
- Conduct proactive outbound prospecting through cold calls, email, LinkedIn, and other appropriate channels.
- Develop creative approaches to identify and engage hard-to-reach prospects.
- Maintain a consistent daily prospecting and outreach activity level.
Lead Qualification
- Engage prospects to understand their business needs, challenges, current solutions, and potential fit.
- Qualify prospects based on agreed-upon criteria such as company profile, business need, decision-making authority, budget, timing, and buying intent.
- Identify key decision-makers and influencers within target accounts.
- Properly document prospect information, interactions, qualification details, and next steps in the CRM.
Appointment Setting & Demo Scheduling
- Convert qualified prospects into meetings, discovery calls, product demonstrations, or sales appointments.
- Schedule meetings directly onto the appropriate salesperson's calendar.
- Confirm appointments and conduct follow-up to minimize no-shows.
- Ensure sales representatives receive complete and accurate information before each scheduled meeting.
- Reschedule missed or postponed meetings and maintain consistent follow-up with prospects.
Outbound Lead Management
- Manage prospects throughout the early stages of the sales funnel.
- Follow up consistently with prospects who have shown interest but are not yet ready to book a meeting.
- Create and execute follow-up sequences to nurture potential opportunities.
- Re-engage dormant, previously contacted, or unresponsive prospects.
- Identify opportunities for upselling, cross-selling, or additional business where applicable.
CRM & Reporting
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date prospect and activity records in the CRM.
- Track calls, emails, conversations, appointments, follow-ups, and lead status.
- Provide regular reports on outbound activity, pipeline development, appointments booked, conversion rates, and lead quality.
- Monitor personal KPIs and continuously improve prospecting and conversion performance.
Qualifications
- 3–5 years of experience in SDR, BDR, appointment setting, outbound sales, lead generation, telemarketing, or business development.
- Proven experience in cold calling and outbound prospecting.
- Demonstrated ability to source and hunt for your own leads rather than relying primarily on inbound leads or pre-built lists.
- Experience booking qualified meetings or product demos for sales teams.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Comfortable speaking with business owners, executives, managers, and other decision-makers.
- Strong research and prospecting skills.
- Comfortable working with CRM systems and sales engagement tools.
- Highly organized with strong follow-up discipline.
- Goal-oriented, persistent, and comfortable handling rejection.
- Ability to work independently while consistently meeting activity and revenue-related targets.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience selling B2B products, SaaS, technology, professional services, or other complex solutions.
- Experience prospecting into international markets, particularly the US, Canada, UK, or Australia.
