A Construction Design Engineer with multi-disciplinary expertise plays a key role in designing, coordinating, and integrating all structural, mechanical, and electrical systems of a construction project.
They ensure that all systems are technically compatible, cost-efficient, and practical to build, while maintaining compliance with codes and project standards.
Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed engineering drawings, layouts, and technical plans using CAD or BIM software.
- Develop designs for structural, mechanical, and electrical systems based on project specifications and codes.
- Conduct design calculations for load, stress, and capacity to ensure safety and functionality.
- Assist in value engineering and design optimization to reduce cost while maintaining quality.
- Coordinate with architects, civil, mechanical, and electrical engineers to ensure design compatibility.
- Review and integrate design inputs from different disciplines into a unified construction plan.
- Attend project meetings and provide technical advice during design and construction stages.
- Prepare design reports, technical specifications, and cost estimates.
- Review and approve shop drawings and as-built plans submitted by contractors.
- Ensure all designs comply with local building codes, safety regulations, and client requirements.
- Provide technical support during construction to resolve design-related issues.
- Conduct site inspections and verify that works conform to approved designs.
- Perform design revisions or modifications as required during implementation.
- Ensure adherence to engineering standards, quality assurance, and safety protocols.
- Participate in project review, audits, and design verification processes
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, or Architectural Engineering or Equivalent.
- Professional license (PRC Registered Engineer) is an advantage or may be required.
- Minimum of 2–5 years experience in construction design, planning, or engineering.
- Background in structural, MEPF, or infrastructure projects preferred.
- Experience with BIM coordination or multi-disciplinary design is a strong asset.
- Proficient in design and drafting software.
- Familiarity with building codes, design standards, and construction methods.
- Strong analytical and mathematical skills for design computations.
- Knowledge in MS Office, especially Excel for reports and cost estimation.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication and coordination skills with various project stakeholders.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Organized, proactive, and able to work both independently and in a team.
- Willing to be assigned to project sites or attend site coordination meetings.
- Updated knowledge of sustainable design principles and modern construction technologies is a plus.
