Job summary

WSP Philippines, Inc. is looking for a Design Engineer based in Metro Manila, Pasig. The role involves drafting design calculations, checking structural details, and working closely with project stakeholders to ensure project requirements are met.

The ideal candidate will be a Registered Civil Engineer with a minimum of 4 years’ experience in designing multi-level residential and commercial projects, and proficient in design software including RAPT and ETABS.

Job description

Responsibilities

• Reports and works under the supervision of the Project Engineer, Senior Engineer and Structures Manager.
• Ensures that the Project Brief and design requirements are understood; raises Technical Queries and Requests for information to ensure design information is complete and unambiguous.
• Drafts/prepares/self-checks design calculations, structural details/sketches and specification reports in accordance with project requirements, stability checks and relevant codes.
• Ensures that designs are correctly interpreted and represented on the drawings.
• Provides drawings/sketches for own designs and produces sketches to be incorporated in drawings by Technicians.
• Ensures markups are delivered to the drafting team in a timely manner.
• Reviews and incorporates comments from the Design Checker.
• Checks/prepares CAD drawings in accordance with required standards when necessary.
• Reviews shop drawings.
• Performs quality design checks and drawing reviews as required.
• Organises, drafts and coordinates technical documents.
• Assists in the duties of the Project Manager and attends meetings as directed.
• Drafter correspondence for the Project Manager and communicates directly with the Design Team on day‑to‑day matters.
• Works toward continuous improvement of the team by utilising standardized calculation systems.
• Carrying out site inspections as instructed.
• Undergoes relevant training as directed.
• Complies with all role‑specific SHEQ obligations.
• Develops the ability to apply safety in design to all projects.
• Prepares technical reports on small to medium projects.
• Applies legislation, standards, guidelines and project specifications.
• Completes other duties as directed to help provide outstanding service to customers.

Qualifications

• Technical competence commensurate with a Design Engineer’s role.
• Registered Civil Engineer recognised by the relevant licensure regulatory board.
• Proficient in Windows and Microsoft Applications.
• Good English communication skills.

Experience, Skills and Organisational Knowledge

• Minimum 4 years’ experience in the design of multi‑level residential, commercial and institutional projects.
• Experience designing reinforced & post‑tensioned concrete and structural steelwork.
• Experience with design software including RAPT, RAM Concept, Microstran and ETABS.
• Experience working within an international design office and familiarity with Australian Standards (plus).
• Ability to check documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
• Ability to work as a team player with a wide variety of personalities and situations while remaining professional and outcome‑focused.
• Ability to work independently and communicate clearly with clients, management, office team members, colleagues and consultants.
• Attention to detail and the ability to meet targets and deadlines.
• Developing technical skills across a broad range of areas within the discipline.
