About the role
Technical Artists act as the bridge between art and engineering, defining and optimizing the asset pipeline, creating custom shaders, and building the tools necessary to bring high-quality 3D art into the Unity engine without sacrificing performance. You will work closely with the art team, animators, and developers to troubleshoot technical issues and ensure seamless asset integration.
Key responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain seamless art pipelines between DCC tools (like Blender) and Unity
- Develop custom C# editor tools and Python add-ons to automate repetitive tasks like batch rendering, asset exporting, and scene setup
- Author and optimize custom materials and shaders within Unity's Universal Render Pipeline (URP)
- Work closely with the art team to achieve specific visual targets using Shader Graph and HLSL
- Create character rigs and custom geometry nodes using Blender
- Oversee the technical integration of complex character rigs into Unity
- Build and maintain robust animation blend trees, state machines, and character controllers
- Proactively profile and optimize game scenes for target hardware, managing draw calls, memory footprints, LOD systems, and lighting data
- Troubleshoot technical issues related to the integration of 3D models, textures, animations, and VFX
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of and demonstrate proficiency in all company rules, policies, procedures, and guidelines
About you
- Proven professional experience as a Technical Artist, 3D Generalist, or similar role
- Deep technical understanding of Unity, particularly URP, lighting workflows, and the Animator system
- Strong proficiency in C# for Unity tool development and Python for extending DCC applications
- Expert-level knowledge of 3D modeling and animation software (e.g., Blender, Maya), with a strong grasp of rigging and geometry nodes
- Comfortable working in collaborative environments using Git and Git LFS for large asset management
- A strong portfolio demonstrating technical problem-solving within Unity
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, iterative production environment
