Job summary

Manulife Financial in the Philippines seeks an experienced L3 Middleware Engineer to design, implement, and optimize enterprise middleware across Azure and on‑prem environments. You will drive modernization, troubleshoot complex incidents, and partner with DevOps and infrastructure teams to ensure scalable, secure platforms.

The role emphasizes cloud migrations, architecture governance, and security compliance within a large enterprise middleware stack.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of middleware engineering experience.
• Strong hands-on with WebSphere, WebLogic, Tomcat, and IIS.
• Hands-on Azure cloud experience and cloud migrations.
• Knowledge of integration patterns and enterprise architecture.
• Background in application development is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement scalable, secure middleware solutions aligned with enterprise architecture standards.
• Partner with application, infrastructure, and DevOps teams to define integration patterns and platform strategies.
• Lead solution design for onboarding, modernization, and cloud migration initiatives.
• Evaluate and recommend middleware technologies, frameworks, and architecture patterns.
• Act as L3 escalation point for complex middleware incidents and performance issues.
• Perform deep root cause analysis and implement permanent fixes.
• Drive proactive problem management and platform stability improvements.
• Engineer and optimize middleware platforms across cloud (Azure) and on-prem environments.
• Implement high availability, disaster recovery, and performance tuning strategies.
• Lead and support cloud migration strategies (On-Prem to Azure IaaS/PaaS).
• Design and implement cloud-native middleware solutions using Azure services.
• Implement security practices (TLS, certificate lifecycle, patching, hardening).
• Ensure compliance with enterprise security policies.

Job description

The L3 Middleware Engineer (Solutions Engineering) is a senior technical role responsible for designing, engineering, and optimizing middleware platforms that support enterprise applications. This role focuses on solutions engineering, advanced troubleshooting (L3), and driving modernization initiatives across cloud environments.

Position Responsibilities:

Solutions Engineering & Architecture

• Design and implement scalable, secure, and highly available middleware solutions aligned with enterprise architecture standards
• Partner with application, infrastructure, and DevOps teams to define integration patterns and platform strategies
• Lead solution design for application onboarding, modernization, and cloud migration initiatives
• Evaluate and recommend middleware technologies, frameworks, and architecture patterns

Advanced Support (L3) & Problem Resolution

• Act as L3 escalation point for complex middleware incidents and performance issues
• Perform deep root cause analysis and implement permanent fixes
• Drive proactive problem management and platform stability improvements

Platform Engineering & Optimization

• Engineer and optimize middleware platforms across cloud (Azure) and on-prem environments
• Implement high availability, disaster recovery, and performance tuning strategies

Cloud & Modernization

• Lead and support cloud migration strategies (On-Prem to Azure IaaS/PaaS)
• Design and implement cloud-native middleware solutions using Azure services

Security & Governance

• Implement security practices (TLS, certificate lifecycle, patching, hardening)
• Ensure compliance with enterprise security policies

Required Qualifications:

• 7+ years experience in middleware engineering
• Strong experience in middleware platforms (WebSphere, WebLogic, Tomcat, IIS)
• Strong experience with Azure and/or other cloud platforms (API Management, Service Bus, App Services)
• Knowledge of integration patterns and cloud migration
• Background on application development is a big plus

Preferred Qualifications:

• DevOps and CI/CD exposure
• Containerization (Docker/Kubernetes)
• Azure certifications
