Subrogation & Claims Recovery Specialist
Subrogation & Claims Recovery Specialist
Build the case. Win the argument. Finish by early afternoon.
Two things you should know up front.
One: you'll be finished by early afternoon. Every day. No graveyard shift, ever.
Two: this is recovery work with actual teeth. You'll assess liability, build the case and negotiate the settlement yourself — not hand the file to someone senior and wait to hear what happened.
We're a financial services group standing up our own team in Manila, and this function is being built from nothing. If you've been doing subrogation inside a large account where you were one step in somebody else’s workflow, this is the opposite of that. You'll own your files from referral to closure.
The recoveries run under New Zealand road law and insurance practice. You won't know that on day one and nobody expects you to — but you do need to be the kind of person who goes and learns it properly.
What you'll actually be doing
- Taking recovery and settlement files from referral all the way through to closure
- Determining liability and sizing up recovery prospects using the evidence, the legislation and the industry agreements
- Pursuing recovery against at-fault parties, their insurers, and anyone else on the hook
- Negotiating settlements that land commercially well without burning the relationship
- Preparing and issuing correspondence, settlement demands, invoices and the supporting documentation behind them
- Keeping claim and recovery records accurate and current in the system
- Monitoring recovery debtors, payment arrangements and outstanding balances
- Getting your allocated work done inside the agreed service levels, every time
- Chasing internal teams for the assessments, documents and evidence you need to move a file forwardContributing to the team’s recovery targets and financial performance
- Dealing with insurers, brokers, repairers, legal representatives and collection agencies like a professional
This is you
- You've worked in insurance claims recoveries, subrogation, settlements or commercial debt recovery — this isn’t a role to learn the fundamentals in
- You’ll learn New Zealand road law, insurance practice and recovery procedure properly, and keep learning as they change. Not a nice-to-have, a requirement
- You can read a set of facts, form a view on liability, and then defend it when somebody disagrees
- You can negotiate firmly without making an enemy of the person on the other end
- Strong written and spoken English — most of this job is email and phone with people who will push back
- You can carry a caseload without letting files go quiet
- Attention to detail that holds up when your demand gets disputed
- Sound judgement, and the confidence to make a call rather than escalatory everything
- You're genuinely reliable about the early start. If that doesn’t fit your life, this role will make you miserable — and we'd rather you knew that now
- Subrogation for a US, Australian or New Zealand carrier
- Exposure to New Zealand or Australian insurance practice
- Working with repairers, assessors or legal representatives
- Commercial debt recovery or collections

- Team events and socials - and we do them, rather than talk about doing them
- Birthdays, work anniversaries and hitting targets get marked properly, not quietly ignored
- Coffee and tea on site, which matters more than you'd think at this hour
- Real room to grow as the site scales. The people who are here early are the ones who grow with it
About the shift - read this bit properly
This is a morning shift with a genuinely early start, and we'd rather you knew now than found out at offer stage.
- Start time is 4:00 AM or 5:00 AM, depending on the time of year
- Eight hours a day, 40 hours a week - so you're done by early afternoon
- Every hour before 6:00 AM carries the 10% night differential, paid on top of your salary
- You'll need to sort your own commute at that hour, and we've pitched the salary with that in mind. Think honestly about the trip from where you live before you apply
- In return: your afternoons are genuinely yours, and you'll never sit in evening traffic
