Job summary

Austal Philippines in Balamban, Cebu seeks an experienced Ship Repair Area Coordinator to oversee all repair and maintenance activities within the assigned work area. You will ensure operations are performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with quality standards and project schedules.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in a technical field and 3–5 years in ship repair or heavy industrial maintenance with supervisory exposure.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, or related technical field (preferred).
  • 3–5 years in ship repair, shipbuilding, or heavy industrial maintenance, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or coordinating role.
  • Hands‑on exposure to hull works, piping, mechanical, outfitting, and electrical systems.
  • Experience reading technical drawings, class society requirements, and repair specifications.
  • Familiarity with HSE standards, permit‑to‑work systems, and dockyard safety regulations.

Job description

PURPOSE

The Ship Repair Area Coordinator is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all repair and maintenance activities within the assigned work area. The role ensures that repair operations are executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with quality standards, class society rules, and project schedules. The Area Coordinator serves as the key link between project management, supervisors, subcontractors, and ship crew to achieve timely completion of ship repair works while optimizing resources and minimizing risks.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL
EDUCATION BACKGROUND
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, or related technical field (preferred).
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in ship repair, shipbuilding, or heavy industrial maintenance, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or coordinating role.
  • Hands‑on exposure to ship repair activities such as hull works, piping, mechanical, outfitting, and electrical systems.
  • Proven track record in managing subcontractors, workforce teams, and area‑specific projects.
  • Experience in reading and interpreting technical drawings, class society requirements, and repair specifications.
  • Familiarity with HSE standards, permit‑to‑work systems, and dockyard safety regulations.
TECHNICAL SKILLS
  • Strong knowledge of shipyard operations, repair methods, and class inspection processes.
  • Ability to plan, monitor, and control repair activities within assigned areas.
  • Proficiency in using MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and project management tools; knowledge of ERP or shipyard systems is an advantage.
  • Skilled in resource allocation, manpower scheduling, and progress reporting.
DESIRABLE
  • Experience working directly with classification societies, surveyors, and shipowners.
  • Exposure to ERP, shipyard planning software, or project management tools.
  • Training or certification in HSE, risk assessment, or quality management systems.
  • Knowledge of budget monitoring and cost control practices in ship repair projects.
  • Familiarity with international ship repair standards (IMO, SOLAS, ISM).
  • Demonstrated experience in continuous improvement initiatives or Lean shipyard practices.
  • Ability to handle multiple vessel repair projects simultaneously.
