Job summary

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain coordinated 3D models in Tekla Structures for structural steel projects.
• Produce complete drawing sets including GA, erection, shop drawings, bolt plans, and framing plans.
• Detail connections from engineer-supplied reactions (shear tabs, clip angles, base plates, etc.).
• Detail miscellaneous steel like stairs, handrails, ladders, and platforms.
• Generate CNC/DSTV output, NC files, bolt lists, and material takeoffs; include anchors in shipping lists.
• Run numbering, clash checks, and internal QA/QC before submission.
• Coach junior detailers, mark up corrections, and manage RFIs/revisions.
• Coordinate with fabrication shops, erection crews, and engineers on constructability.

About the role

You will own detailing packages end to end, from model setup through final submission, for fabricators and contractors in the US. This is a senior seat with checking and mentoring responsibility, not a production-only position. You will be the person a US fabricator's project manager talks to when a connection does not work.

Your primary responsibility will be ownership of complete projects, including modelling, shop drawings, self-checking, and incorporation of RFIs and revisions. You may also check other detailers' work as needed. The project manager retains responsibility for scheduling and final quality review, with the goal of limiting that review to spot checks.

What you will do

• Build and maintain coordinated 3D models in Tekla Structures for commercial and industrial structural steel and miscellaneous metals projects
• Produce complete drawing sets: general arrangement and erection drawings, assembly and single-part shop drawings, anchor bolt plans, and framing plans
• Detail connections from engineer-supplied reactions, including shear tabs, clip angles, moment connections, base plates, gussets, bracing, and anchor bolts
• Detail miscellaneous steel: stairs, handrails, ladders, platforms, and access framing
• Generate and verify CNC and DSTV output, NC files, bolt lists, advance bills of material, and material takeoffs. Understand different anchor types, including wedge and epoxy anchors, and include them in shipping lists
• Run numbering, clash and model checks, and internal QA/QC before submission
• Check junior detailers' models and drawings as needed, mark up corrections, and coach on recurring errors
• Manage RFIs, client backcheck comments, and revision control with clean traceability
• Coordinate directly with fabrication shops, erection crews, and engineers of record on constructability issues

What you need

• 6 or more years detailing structural steel, with strong Tekla Structures depth and the ability to handle modelling, drawing production, and checking across a complete project
• Prior experience detailing US projects and applying US standards and fabrication practices
• Working knowledge of AISC and CISC standards, and the AISC Detailing Manual or NISD conventions. BS, AS/NZS, or IS exposure is a plus
• Ability to read and interpret structural, architectural, and MEP drawings and specifications
• Shop-floor literacy: you understand how a weldment gets fabricated, fit up, and erected, and you detail accordingly
• AutoCAD proficiency. Bluebeam exposure is a plus
• Strong written and spoken English to run client calls and write clear RFIs without a translator in the loop
• Diploma or degree in civil, mechanical, or structural engineering, or equivalent detailing experience
• Preferred Qualification
• PEMB detailing experience with primary and secondary framing, purlins, girts, and sheeting
• Ability to build custom components, macros, drawing templates, and report templates to cut repetitive work. These skills are a plus, not a requirement; project ownership is more important
• Tekla API or scripting for automation
• Prior experience working directly with US fabricators or on delegated connection design projects
