The role requires 10 years of experience, strong RC and precast knowledge, and proficiency with ETABS, SAFE, RAM, Tekla, Revit, and BIM integration.

Senior Structural Design Engineer

Atlas Engineering Solutions is seeking an experienced Senior Structural Design Engineer to join our growing Design & Build team.

This is a highly technical role focused on structural design, engineering calculations, and structural analysis for Australian projects, with a primary focus on reinforced concrete and precast concrete structures. Working closely with our Australian General Manager and Registered Professional Engineer, the successful candidate will take ownership of the structural design process from concept through detailed engineering.

You will be responsible for the structural analysis, engineering calculations, and technical development of each project while working closely with a team of Structural Junior Engineers, BIM Modelers, and Detailers in Manila to deliver coordinated IFC documentation for Australian projects.

Final engineering reviews and certification will be completed by our Australian Registered Professional Engineer; however, responsibility for the technical analysis, modelling, calculations, and engineering documentation will sit with this role.

What you bring:

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• Minimum 10 years' experience in structural design.
• Proven experience delivering structural designs for Australian projects.
• Strong experience in reinforced concrete design.
• Precast concrete experience will be highly regarded.
• Good understanding of structural steel design and cast in-situ concrete elements associated with building structures.
• Excellent knowledge of Australian Standards, particularly AS/NZS 1170, AS 3600, AS 4100, AS 3850, and the NCC.
• Excellent understanding of structural behaviour, load paths, structural stability, serviceability, durability, and constructability.
• Ability to independently complete structural designs from concept through to detailed engineering.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• High level of accuracy, organisation, and attention to detail.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and take ownership of technical outcomes.

Highly Desirable Experience:

• Precast concrete building systems.

How your day with us

Structural Design:

• Develop complete structural designs for commercial, residential, industrial, and infrastructure projects.
• Design reinforced concrete, precast concrete, structural steel, and associated cast in-situ structural elements in accordance with Australian Standards.
• Design slabs, beams, columns, walls, foundations, lift cores, stair cores, retaining walls, and structural framing systems.
• Produce complete engineering calculations and technical reports suitable for Australian construction projects.
• Develop practical, efficient, and economical structural solutions suitable for manufacture, transport, erection, and construction.
• Optimized structural systems while maintaining safety, durability, and constructability.
• Review architectural drawings and develop appropriate structural systems.

Structural Analysis:

• Develop and maintain structural analysis models using ETABS, SAFE, and other structural engineering software.
• Perform structural analysis for gravity, wind, seismic, and other applicable loading conditions.
• Analyse structural behavior, stability, and load paths throughout the building.
• Assess serviceability, strength, durability, and overall structural performance.
• Interpret analysis results and translate them into practical engineering solutions.
• Resolve complex engineering problems throughout the design process.

Precast Engineering:

• Develop practical precast structural systems suitable for manufacturing, transportation, and erection.
• Design precast wall panels, hollowcore floor systems, solid slabs, stairs, lift cores, and structural connections.
• Coordinate with BIM, detailing, production, and construction teams to ensure designs are practical and buildable.
• Assist in developing standard precast details and connection systems.

Team Coordination:

• Provide technical direction to Structural Junior Engineers, BIM Modellers, and Detailers.
• Review engineering and documentation outputs prepared by the Manila team.
• Ensure engineering intent is accurately reflected in drawings, models, and documentation.
• Coordinate with the Australian General Manager and Registered Professional Engineer for design reviews and certification.
• Support the team in resolving technical queries during design, detailing, production, and construction.

Technical Development:

• Develop and maintain structural calculation templates, engineering standards, and design procedures.
• Support the continuous improvement of engineering workflows and quality systems.
• Assist with value engineering and alternative design solutions.
• Contribute to standardization and efficiency across Atlas Engineering Solutions

Success in this role will be measured by the ability to:
