Job summary

Global Staff Network is seeking a Senior Structural Draftsperson to join a dynamic Australian- focused engineering consultancy. You will produce detailed structural drawings and BIM models, lead junior staff, and ensure compliance with Australian Standards and NCC across residential, commercial, and infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities include coordinating with engineers and architects, delivering clash-free BIM models, and maintaining project documentation while adhering to quality

Qualifications

• Diploma or Advanced Diploma in Civil or Structural Engineering Drafting, or equivalent.
• Minimum 10 years of structural drafting experience.
• Extensive experience on Australian structural engineering projects.
• Strong understanding of Australian Standards and NCC.
• Proven detailing experience: RC, structural steel, timber, masonry.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed structural drawings for RC, steel, timber, masonry, and precast structures.
• Produce general arrangement drawings, plans, sections, elevations, and construction details.
• Develop reinforcement detailing for concrete structures.
• Coordinate BIM models with architects, engineers, and other consultants; detect clashes.
• Mentor junior drafting staff and ensure QA procedures are followed.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Structural Draftsperson to join a growing structural engineering consultancy supporting a diverse range of residential, commercial, industrial, civil, and infrastructure projects across Australia.

In this role, you will be responsible for producing high-quality structural drawings and BIM models while working closely with structural engineers, architects, builders, and consultants. You will also provide technical leadership to junior drafting staff and help maintain high documentation and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

Structural Drafting & Documentation

• Prepare detailed structural drawings for reinforced concrete, structural steel, timber, masonry, and precast structures.

• Produce general arrangement drawings, plans, sections, elevations, and construction details.

• Develop reinforcement detailing for concrete structures.

• Prepare steel fabrication and connection details where required.

• Produce temporary works drawings, including shoring, propping, lifting, demolition sequencing, and temporary support systems.

• Prepare as-built drawings based on site information.

BIM & 3D Modelling

• Develop and maintain accurate 3D structural models using Revit.

• Coordinate BIM models with architects, engineers, and other consultants.

• Detect and resolve clashes through model coordination.

• Produce construction documentation directly from BIM models.

Project Coordination

• Coordinate drafting deliverables with structural engineers.

• Liaise with architects, builders, contractors, surveyors, and other consultants.

• Review architectural drawings for structural implications.

• Attend design coordination meetings as required.

• Ensure documentation aligns with engineering intent and project specifications.

Quality Assurance

• Review drawings for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.

• Ensure documentation complies with Australian Standards, the National Construction Code (NCC), client drafting standards, and internal quality procedures.

• Conduct internal drawing reviews before issuing documentation.

Technical Support

• Assist engineers in preparing design documentation.

• Interpret engineering calculations into practical construction details.

• Recommend drafting improvements to enhance constructability.

• Develop practical drafting solutions for complex structural details.

Leadership & Mentoring

• Mentor and supervise junior draftspersons.

• Allocate drafting tasks across project teams.

• Review completed work and provide technical guidance.

• Assist in developing drafting standards, templates, and training materials.

Site & Documentation Support

• Attend site inspections when required.

• Assist engineers during construction inspections.

• Update drawings to reflect site changes.

• Prepare sketches and responses for Requests for Information (RFIs).

• Maintain drawing registers, revisions, document control, and project archives.

Qualifications & Experience

• Diploma or Advanced Diploma in Civil or Structural Engineering Drafting, or equivalent.

• Minimum 10 years of structural drafting experience.

• Extensive experience working on Australian structural engineering projects.

• Strong understanding of Australian Standards and the National Construction Code (NCC).

• Proven experience detailing reinforced concrete, structural steel, timber, and masonry structures.
