Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience or equivalent senior-level ability.

Responsibilities

Client: a St. George, Utah-based technology company that helps retailers manage inventory using RFID.

About the role

We are looking for a hands-on Senior Software Engineer who can serve as the technical foundation of our new Baguio development team.

This person will work directly with our Director of Innovation to turn product goals into well-designed, production-ready software. The role includes architecture and leadership responsibilities, but it is not a management-only position. You will be expected to write code, solve difficult technical problems, review work, and help three mid-level engineers grow into strong, independent contributors.

As the office matures, this person should be capable of becoming its day-to-day technical leader.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, test, deploy, and support software across our cloud platform, integrations, edge applications, and hardware-connected systems.
• Translate product requirements and business problems into clear technical plans and manageable development milestones.
• Make practical architecture decisions that balance delivery speed, reliability, security, and maintainability.
• Provide technical leadership, code reviews, mentoring, and day-to-day guidance to the Baguio engineering team.
• Establish strong engineering practices for testing, documentation, deployment, monitoring, and incident follow-up.
• Build and maintain integrations with Shopify and other commerce, inventory, and operational platforms.
• Troubleshoot problems across APIs, services, databases, local networks, device software, RFID readers, scanners, and printers.
• Work closely with product, support, operations, and US leadership to understand how the software is used in real customer environments.
• Use AI coding agents such as Claude Code, Codex, and similar tools to accelerate development, testing, investigation, refactoring, and documentation.
• Review and verify all AI-generated work rather than treating agent output as automatically correct.
• Communicate progress, decisions, risks, and blockers clearly so that the team is never surprised by delays or technical issues.
• Help evaluate new technologies, vendor SDKs, and development approaches through focused research and prototyping.

Required qualifications

• Typically 7 or more years of professional software engineering experience, or equivalent evidence of senior-level technical ability.
• Strong production experience in at least one of the following languages: Go, Python, or C++.
• Demonstrated ability to learn unfamiliar languages, frameworks, APIs, and technical domains quickly.
• Experience designing and operating APIs, backend services, integrations, or distributed systems.
• Strong SQL and relational database skills, preferably with PostgreSQL.
• Experience with AWS or a comparable cloud platform, Docker, Linux, Git, and CI/CD workflows.
• Strong debugging and problem-solving skills across multiple parts of a system.
• Experience reviewing code, mentoring engineers, and leading technical decisions without becoming a bottleneck.
• Strong professional English for meetings, technical discussions, documentation, and written updates.
• Experience using AI coding agents as part of a professional engineering workflow.
• Willingness to work full-time from our Baguio office and occasionally coordinate with colleagues in US time zones.

Helpful experience

• RFID, IoT, edge computing, embedded systems, hardware integration, networking, USB or serial communication, or printer integration.
• Retail, inventory management, e-commerce, warehouse systems, or Shopify integrations.
• TypeScript, JavaScript, React, mobile development, or desktop applications.
• Event-driven systems, background processing, offline synchronization, or high-volume data processing.
• Experience helping establish or grow a new engineering team.

The right person for this role

The ideal candidate takes ownership from initial design through production support. They communicate early when something is unclear or blocked, make their progress visible, and enjoy solving problems that cross traditional software boundaries.

They should be comfortable using AI agents heavily while still understanding, reviewing, testing, and taking responsibility for every change they approve.
