Dyson Institute in the Philippines seeks a Senior Power Electronics Engineer to drive the power electronics capability for consumer appliance products. You will work on power conversions, battery management systems and motor drives within a global project context.

Qualifications

  • Degree in electronics engineering or similar discipline.
  • 4+ years in electronic design for consumer/home appliances.
  • Experience in Power Electronics: SMPS, motor drives, inverters, battery management.
  • Experience with simulation tools (LTSpice, Simetrix, Ansys, Flotherm).
  • Experience in thermal and EMI performance.
  • Schematic design and PCB layout (Mentor Graphics, Altium).
  • Knowledge of PCBA safety/regulatory standards (EMC).
  • DFM/DFMEA understanding.
  • Strong documentation and design-note skills.

Responsibilities

About the Team

Dyson is looking for a Senior Power Electronics Engineer to drive innovation within its high-performing Electronics Hardware Design Engineering team. The Electronics Hardware Design Engineering team is a multidisciplinary team responsible for the development of the electronics hardware behind Dyson Appliance’s Power Architecture. This role is focusing more on Beauty Appliance Category of Dyson. Our multi-disciplinary team is growing in the Philippines, and we would like to hear from you if you are looking for a challenging and rewarding career in Power Electronics design.

About the Role

The Senior Power Electronics Engineer role involves specification, design, and test of the power electronic circuits for new and pioneering consumer or home appliance products within the Power Systems Team. You will work in multi-disciplinary global project teams to define, architect, and deliver the next generation of electronic hardware for Power Conversions, Battery Management Systems and Motor Drives. The day‑to‑day responsibilities may include, Develop and deliver power architecture and topology solutions to integrated project’s timelines. Device selection and characterization for different power applications. Creating design documentation, test methods and validation plans. Verifying design decisions through simulation, test and analysis of the results. Following the full life cycle of the product development processes. Ensure design solutions meet product specifications and functional requirements (performance, reliability, DFM, cost and compliance with international regulatory standards e.g. IEC, UL and EMC) Liaise and collaborate with various Dyson engineering teams (Mechanical, Compliance, Software, Manufacturing, Test, etc) across the UK and Southeast Asia to ensure product and system requirements are satisfied and drive product development through production. Responsible for driving successful collaboration with ODM and JDM partners to ensure timely delivery of reliable power electronics solutions and resilient product designs. Produce detailed engineering materials including design schematics, PCB layouts, tolerance analysis, design notes, FMEA, failure analysis reports, and technical review documents. Follow the full life cycle of the product development process. Contribute towards and support power electronics process improvement activities. Sustain existing designs in production to ensure continued product supply. The projects are supported by engineers at all levels, and they provide a great opportunity to develop and improve your skills and knowledge of power electronics. There is scope to make a positive impact and contribution to a range of new and exciting innovative products.

Requirements for the Role
  • Degree qualified in electronics engineering or a comparable discipline.
  • More than 4 years of working experience in the electronic design industry or a similar environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of, or experience in, the design and development of Power Electronics: SMPS, motor drive, inverters, battery management, and power electronics products Experience using simulation (LTSpice, Simetrix, Ansys, Flotherm etc.) tools to support design calculations, tolerance analysis, and documentation.
  • Experience in electronics design for thermal and EMI performance.
  • Experience in schematic design and PCB layout (Mentor Graphics, Altium, etc.).
  • Sound understanding of the basic principles of power electronic devices including silicon-based IGBTs, MOSFETs and wide bandgap technologies.
  • Experience with DFM and DFMEA.
  • Knowledge of electronics Safety Requirements and Regulatory Certification at PCBA and product levels, including Electromagnetic Compliance (EMC).
  • Bring a systematic and thorough approach to documentation.
  • Highly motivated and can communicate complex ideas to a range of people at different levels within the business.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to independently deliver high-quality results within challenging project timelines.
  • An active approach to the generation of ideas.
