Job summary

Dyson Institute in the Philippines is seeking a Power Electronics Engineer to design, test and validate power electronic circuits for consumer home appliances. You will work with global teams on power conversions, battery management and motor drives, driving product development through production.

The role requires experience in SMPS, EMI/thermal performance, and PCB schematic/layout, with strong documentation and collaboration skills to meet Dyson’s ambitious future targets.

Qualifications

• Degree in electronics engineering or comparable discipline.
• 2+ years of experience in electronics design.
• Experience with SMPS, motor drives, inverters, BMS.
• Experience with simulation tools (LTSpice, Simetrix, Ansys, Flotherm).
• Schematic design and PCB layout experience (Mentor Graphics, Altium).
• Knowledge of IGBTs, MOSFETs and wide bandgap tech.
• DFM/DFMEA knowledge.
• Regulatory certification knowledge (EMC) at PCBA and product levels.
• Strong documentation and communication skills.

Responsibilities

About the Team

Dyson is looking for a Power Electronics Engineer to drive innovation within its high-performing Electronics Hardware Design Engineering team. The Electronics Hardware Design Engineering team is a multidisciplinary team responsible for the development of the electronics hardware behind Dyson Appliance’s Power Architecture. This role is focusing more on Beauty Appliance Category of Dyson. About the Role

The Power Electronics Engineer role involves specification, design, and test of the power electronic circuits for new and pioneering consumer or home appliance products within the Power Systems Team. You will work in multi-disciplinary global project teams to define, architect, and deliver the next generation of electronic hardware for Power Conversions, Battery Management Systems and Motor Drives.

The day-to-day responsibilities may include:

• Device selection and characterization for different power applications
• Creating design documentation, test methods and validation plans
• Verifying design decisions through simulation, test and analysis of the results
• Following the full life cycle of the product development processes
• Ensure design solutions meet product specifications and functional requirements (performance, reliability, DFM, cost and compliance with international regulatory standards e.g. IEC, UL and EMC)
• Liaise and collaborate with various Dyson engineering teams (Mechanical, Compliance, Software, Manufacturing, Test, etc) across the UK and Southeast Asia to ensure product and system requirements are satisfied and drive product development through production
• Responsible for driving successful collaboration with ODM and JDM partners to ensure timely delivery of reliable power electronics solutions and resilient product designs
• Produce detailed engineering materials including design schematics, PCB layouts, tolerance analysis, design notes, FMEA, failure analysis reports, and technical review documents
• Follow the full life cycle of the product development process

Requirements for the Role

• Degree qualified in electronics engineering or a comparable discipline
• More than 2 years of working experience in the electronic design industry or a similar environment
• Knowledge of, or experience in, the design and development of Power Electronics: SMPS, motor drive, inverters, battery management, and power electronics products
• Experience using simulation (LTSpice, Simetrix, Ansys, Flotherm etc.) tools to support design calculations, tolerance analysis, and documentation
• Experience in electronics design for thermal and EMI performance
• Experience in schematic design and PCB layout (Mentor Graphics, Altium, etc.)
• Basic principles of power electronic devices including silicon-based IGBTs, MOSFETs and wide bandgap technologies
• Experience with DFM and DFMEA
• Knowledge of electronics Safety Requirements and Regulatory Certification at PCBA and product levels, including Electromagnetic Compliance (EMC)
• Bring a systematic and thorough approach to documentation
• Highly motivated and can communicate complex ideas to a range of people at different levels within the business
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to independently deliver high-quality results within challenging project timelines
• An active approach to the generation of ideas
• Passionate about Dyson and our technology to help us meet our ambitious targets for the future
