Job summary

Penbrothers supports a Melbourne-based accounting and advisory client by hiring a Senior Accountant (AU) for full-time remote work. You will prepare tax returns, financial statements, and BAS across various entities, ensuring accuracy and compliance under Australian standards.

The ideal candidate has 3–5 years of Australian accounting experience, IFRS knowledge, and proficiency with Xero, MYOB, and QuickBooks.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• CPA certification (preferred).
• 3–5 years of experience in Australian accounting and taxation.
• Experience in IFRS and AU taxation.
• Experience in taxation preparation & procedural matters.
• Working knowledge of Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks accounting tools.

Responsibilities

• Drafting, inputting and collating tax returns for Individuals for review by a Manager.
• Drafting, Inputting and collating Tax Returns for Partnerships, Companies, Trusts and Superannuation Funds for review by a Manager.
• Entering data for the preparation of Financial Reports for Companies, Superannuation Funds, Trusts, Partnerships and Sole Traders.
• Resolves all queries raised by Manager after Review.
• Entering data – Input forms on Xero Tax, including – Client Update Forms, Depreciation Schedules, etc.
• Preparing Business Activity Statements, including BAS administration.
• Track jobs to ensure timely delivery to clients and to Manager.
• An awareness of the opening time WIP and accumulation of WIP and examining the final WIP when the job is completed.
• Maintenance of professional standards in the communication and delivery of services including, being aware of existing legislation, current developments and ATO interpretation that may impact on work being prepared.
• Liaise with Manager to provide regular updates on status of work in progress and any client issues or requirements.
• Following the firm’s current system of work practices and when unclear on the best approach asking questions in the most appropriate manner.
• Perform other tasks on ad hoc basis as requested by Manager.
