Fuel the Future With Us
The Retail Finance Manager sits at the intersection of Finance and the Commercial team, serving as the primary financial voice within the Retail business. The role ensures that strategic and operational decisions are anchored in rigorous financial analysis and sound commercial judgement. Beyond accurate reporting and variance tracking, the Retail Finance Manager translates complex financial data into actionable insights, challenges assumptions, and partners with senior leadership to shape business strategy and drive sustainable profitability.
How You’ll Drive Success
Budgeting & Financial Planning
- Lead the annual budgeting process for the Retail P&L in partnership with the Retail VP, Buying & Merchandising, Retail Managers, Corporate Planning, and Retail Operations
- Translate commercial strategy, including range plans, promotional calendars, pricing architecture, and volume targets, into detailed revenue, gross margin, and operating cost projections
- Build and maintain a driver-based budgeting model capturing key commercial levers, with sensitivity analysis
- Facilitate budget workshops that challenge inputs and assumptions to ensure plans are both ambitious and achievable
- Coordinate quarterly reforecast cycles and deliver budget and forecast submissions on corporate timetables with full supporting commentary
Performance Monitoring & Management Reporting
- Own the monthly retail performance reporting cycle and deliver a comprehensive, high-quality performance pack on time
- Report actual results versus budget and prior year across all key P&L lines, identifying root causes and separating structural trends from one-off movements
- Develop and maintain a suite of commercial KPIs, including segment, product and customer sales, margin, margin rate, average transaction value, and conversion
- Produce concise, narrative-led executive summaries highlighting the critical issues management needs to act on
- Implement early-warning mechanisms such as flash reporting and weekly trading dashboards to flag risks and opportunities ahead of month-end close
Financial Analysis & Commercial Insight
- Conduct deep-dives into category, channel, customer segment, and store cluster profitability, isolating mix, rate, and volume effects on margin
- Analyze the full pricing structure, including discounts, subsidies, reimbursements, and markdowns, and model the net margin impact of alternative strategies
- Build and maintain store-level P&L and cost-to-serve models covering dealer costs, staffing, and logistics to identify underperforming locations
- Develop scenario models and business cases for new store openings, range extensions, pricing changes, promotions, and channel investments
- Integrate competitive benchmarks, market intelligence, and advanced analytics (price elasticity, promotional ROI, cohort and basket analysis) to move from descriptive to prescriptive insight
Business Partnering & Strategic Support
- Act as a trusted financial advisor to the Retail VP and team, making Finance a valued part of commercial decision-making
- Challenge the commercial team constructively, using data to test assumptions and prevent decisions made on instinct alone
- Represent Finance in trading meetings, category reviews, and strategic planning sessions, influencing decisions in real time
- Present analysis and recommendations to senior leadership and ExCo, and support the CFO, CEO, and President with ad hoc analysis and modelling
Governance, Controls & Process Improvement
- Ensure financial reporting complies with internal accounting policies, group reporting standards, and relevant external requirements
- Champion data quality and reporting integrity, working with IT (SAP, Salesforce) and Operations to resolve source data gaps
- Continuously improve reporting efficiency through automation of recurring reports and rationalization of reports no longer relevant to decisions
- Maintain a robust audit trail for budgets, forecasts, and analytical models, with documented and controlled assumptions
Success Measures
- Timely and accurate delivery of budgets, reforecasts, and monthly performance packs against corporate timetables
- Quality and actionability of commercial insights provided to Retail leadership and ExCo
