Job summary

Owner.com is seeking a Staff Database Engineer to help product teams store and access data effectively at scale. You will lead large migrations, design data schemas, and build platform primitives that unify data access patterns for engineering teams.

This remote-role spans the US, Canada, Mexico, and Colombia, with opportunity to expand the data platform into caching, search, and streaming as we scale.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with databases inside the product—OLTP access patterns, indexing, query optimization, and schema design.
• Able to write production code and reason across both application and database layers.
• Deep expertise with a major relational engine (Postgres strongly preferred) and experience migrating workloads (e.g., MongoDB to Postgres).
• Expertise in schema design, indexing, query optimization, and zero-downtime migrations on large live tables.
• Experience scaling systems through high traffic and data growth, understanding access patterns at scale.
• Strong software engineering ability—writing, reviewing, and shipping production code.
• Flexible problem solving and strong written/verbal communication.
• Personal ownership and accountability; builder mentality.

Responsibilities

• Lead the migration of product workloads and define data-hosting decisions for teams.
• Provide a stable home for data access patterns, schemas, and indexing decisions.
• Build reusable data primitives, including data-sync tooling and ORM patterns, to prevent reinvention.
• Expand the product-data platform over time to include caching, search, and event streaming.
