Job description

The Mandate

A confidential international employer is seeking a commercially resourceful Business Development Manager to build durable revenue streams across four complex markets in East Asia. The assignment begins with opportunity creation: mapping decision makers, opening new channels, earning technical credibility and moving prospects from initial interest to specification, first order and repeat business. This is not a maintenance role for an established book of accounts. Success will come from disciplined prospecting, local partner development and the ability to keep long-cycle opportunities moving across borders, cultures and time zones.

Three Priority Growth Platforms
  • OEM programs: Develop relationships with equipment manufacturers, panel builders and other original-equipment producers; identify repeatable applications, obtain vendor approval and convert design-in opportunities into recurring production demand.
  • Integrators: Recruit and enable telecommunications and systems integrators that can specify, install and support industrial warning, outdoor notification and critical-communications solutions.
  • Electrical Contractors: Build access to distributors and electrical contractors mostly in Japan and South Korea.
What You Will Own
  • Regional growth plan: Create a practical 12- to 24-month market plan, with account priorities, channel choices, product focus, activity targets and revenue milestones by country.
  • New-account development: Build original prospect lists, secure senior-level meetings, qualify real needs and establish productive relationships where none currently exist.
  • Partner network: Select, recruit and develop distributors, integrators and contractors; define expectations, train their teams and maintain momentum through joint calls and opportunity reviews.
  • Complex opportunity leadership: Coordinate discovery, technical positioning, samples, demonstrations, quotations, submittals, negotiation and commercial follow-through through award and delivery.
  • Specification influence: Engage engineers, consultants, OEM technical teams and end users early enough to shape requirements and improve the likelihood of acceptance.
  • Commercial discipline: Balance growth with sound judgment on price, margin, credit, lead time, logistics and realistic customer commitments.
  • Market intelligence: Maintain a fact-based pipeline and report competitor activity, partner performance, project movement, obstacles and next actions clearly and promptly.
How You Operate
  • Builder's mindset: You create structure, test routes to market and act without waiting for perfect information.
  • Cross-cultural judgment: You listen carefully, adapt your approach and establish trust without overpromising.
  • Persistent follow-through: You remain engaged through slow approvals, technical questions and multiple stakeholders.
  • Technical curiosity: You learn applications quickly and can translate product capabilities into business value.
  • Accountability: You keep accurate records, surface problems early and consistently deliver on commitments.
Experience and Qualifications
  • Commercial experience: Eight or more years in B2B technical sales, channel development or international business development, preferably involving electrical, infrastructure, telecom, industrial or engineered products.
  • Regional exposure: Demonstrated success developing business in at least two assigned markets and a credible approach to building coverage in the others.
  • Relevant channels: Experience working with OEMs, distributors, systems integrators, electrical contractors, consultants, or project-driven end users; existing regional relationships are highly valued.
  • Project capability: Comfort navigating specifications, approvals, tenders and extended sales cycles. Familiarity with U.S. government or military procurement, BAA/TAA or similar origin rules is an advantage.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in engineering, business or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Communication: Professional fluency in written and spoken English is required. Japanese, Korean or Mandarin proficiency is strongly preferred but not mandatory.
  • Systems: Disciplined use of CRM, spreadsheets, presentations and other Windows-based business tools.
What the Role Offers
  • Visible impact: Build markets and partnerships whose results can be directly traced to your initiative.
  • Regional scope: Work across sophisticated industrial, infrastructure and public-sector channels in four important markets in East Asia.
  • Autonomy with support: Operate with meaningful ownership while drawing on international technical and commercial resources.
