Job summary

Minimum of 3 years' experience in construction estimation and a civil engineering or related degree are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Technical Estimator or in a similar role within the construction industry.
  • Proficient in estimation software, such as AutoCAD, Bluebeam, or similar programs.
  • Strong numerical skills and an analytical mindset.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications, particularly Excel.

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Technical Estimator to join our project management team. As a Technical Estimator, you will be crucial in preparing detailed cost analyses for construction projects, collaborating closely with purchasing departments and subcontractors. This role requires excellent numerical skills, a thorough understanding of construction processes and materials, and a strategic approach to cost management to ensure our projects are budgeted accurately and efficiently.

Core Responsibilities
  • Estimation and Costing:
    • Prepare detailed cost estimates by analyzing drawings and specifications.
    • Collaborate with purchasing and subcontractors to secure bids and pricing.
    • Utilize specialized Excel templates for accurate estimate calculations.
    • Maintain up-to-date price lists for materials, labor rates, and equipment productivity.
    • Assist the Sales team in preparing proposals and participating in bid meetings as needed.
  • Project Support and Collaboration:
    • Work closely with operations and other departments to ensure accurate project planning and cost tracking.
    • Support client negotiations and ensure bids comply with contractual guidelines.
    • Review proposal requirements to determine scope and estimate needs.
    • Validate project progress and financials with operations to ensure alignment with estimates.
    • Recommend improvements in estimating processes to enhance accuracy.
  • Compliance and Reporting:
    • Maintain documentation in line with company policies and legal standards.
    • Prepare and present cost-budgeting documentation to internal teams and upper management.
    • Maintain a comprehensive record of all estimation documentation for future reference.
    • Ensure that health, safety, and environmental standards are factored into the cost estimates.
    • Develop and submit regular cost tracking and reporting mechanisms.
  • Continuous Improvement and Training:
    • Contribute to the development of standard operating procedures for the estimating process.
    • Actively seek ways to streamline the estimation process to increase efficiency.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Technical Estimator or in a similar role within the construction industry.
  • Proficient in estimation software, such as AutoCAD, Bluebeam, or similar programs.
  • Familiarity with construction processes, materials, and project management principles.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
  • Strong numerical skills and an analytical mindset.
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office applications, particularly Excel.
