Job Summary
The Project Manager – Solar PV Installation is responsible for the end-to-end execution of solar energy projects, from planning and design coordination through procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover. The role ensures projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with technical, safety, and regulatory standards.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
1. Project Planning & Coordination
- Develop detailed project execution plans, schedules, and milestones.
- Review system design (electrical, structural, civil) for constructability.
- Coordinate with engineering teams, suppliers, and subcontractors.
- Define scope of work and project deliverables.
2. Technical Oversight
- Ensure compliance with design drawings, specifications, and standards.
- Validate cable sizing, protection systems, and equipment selection.
- Supervise installation of:
- oPV modules, mounting systems
- oInverters, combiner boxes, transformers
- oAC/DC cabling and protection systems
- Resolve technical issues during construction.
3. Procurement & Logistics
- Coordinate material procurement and delivery schedules.
- Verify quantities (BOM) against design and site requirements.
- Ensure proper handling and storage of solar equipment.
4. Construction Management
- Oversee daily site activities and workforce deployment.
- Monitor installation progress versus schedule.
- Ensure quality workmanship and adherence to method statements.
- Conduct site inspections and progress reporting.
5. Health, Safety, and Compliance
- Enforce safety policies and procedures on-site.
- Ensure compliance with:
- oLocal electrical codes (e.g., PEC)
- oUtility interconnection requirements
- oEnvironmental and building regulations
- Conduct toolbox meetings and safety audits.
6. Cost Control & Budget Management
- Monitor project costs and prevent overruns.
- Track variations, change orders, and claims.
- Optimize resource allocation and productivity.
7. Testing & Commissioning
- Oversee pre-commissioning and commissioning activities.
- Verify system performance (IV curve, insulation resistance, etc.).
- Coordinate with utility for grid interconnection.
- Ensure proper documentation and as-built drawings.
8. Client & Stakeholder Management
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients.
- Provide regular project updates and reports.
- Manage expectations and resolve project-related issues.
9. Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain project documentation:
- oDaily reports
- oProgress reports
- oInspection and test records
- Prepare turnover documents and O&M manuals.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
- Licensed Electrical Engineer (preferred).
- 4+ years’ experience in solar PV or power projects.
- Strong knowledge of:
- oSolar PV systems (utility-scale preferred)
- oElectrical systems (LV/MV)
- oProject management methodologies
