Job post summary
The Business Development Support Cost Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates, quotations, and project proposals for the repair, maintenance, and rehabilitation of transformers, generators, rotors, and other electrical rotating equipment. The role involves reviewing technical requirements, analyzing repair scope, calculating manpower, materials, equipment, subcontractor costs, and ensuring competitive and profitable project costing.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Review technical documents, inspection reports, drawings, specifications, and scope of work requirements.
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for transformer, generator, and rotor repair projects.
- Develop cost breakdowns including labor, materials, spare parts, equipment, testing, transportation, subcontracting, and project overhead costs.
- Prepare quotations, commercial proposals, and bid submissions.
- Ensure estimates are accurate, complete, and submitted within required deadlines.
Technical Scope Evaluation
- Power transformers
- Rotors and rotating equipment
- Electrical and mechanical repair works
- Testing and commissioning activities
- Evaluate repair methods, required manpower, tools, equipment, and resources.
- Coordinate with engineering and maintenance teams to validate repair scope and technical requirements.
Project Cost Analysis
- Review supplier and subcontractor quotations and perform cost comparisons.
- Prepare Bill of Quantities (BOQ), Bill of Materials (BOM), and labor cost calculations.
- Develop cost databases and maintain historical project costing references.
- Monitor estimated versus actual project costs and provide recommendations for improvement.
Site Inspection & Client Coordination
- Conduct site visits and equipment inspections when required.
- Attend technical discussions with clients regarding scope, repair requirements, and costing.
- Support project teams during execution by providing cost-related information and clarifications.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain complete estimation files, costing records, and proposal documentation.
- Prepare reports related to project estimates, variations, and additional w
ork costs.
- Ensure confidentiality of company pricing and commercial information.
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical , Mechanical , Industrial Engineer or related field.
- Licensed Engineer is an advantage.
Experience:
- 3-5 years of experience in cost estimation, power plant maintenance, electrical equipment repair, or industrial projects.
- Experience in transformer repair, generator overhaul, rotor repair, rewinding, testing, or commissioning is preferred.
Skills and Competencies:
- Knowledge of electrical and mechanical equipment repair processes.
- Ability to read technical drawings, specifications, and inspection reports.
- Strong skills in cost calculation, budgeting, and pricing analysis.
- Proficient in MS Excel and estimation tools.
- Good analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet project bidding deadlines.
