The Qualifications We Seek
Skills and Experience
- A minimum of 3-5 years of strong, hands-on Power BI experience, including the design and support of production reporting solutions
- Experience in manufacturing, engineering, distribution, mining services, or another operational environment is highly regarded but not essential; strong experience translating finance and operational data into decision-ready reporting is more important than experience in a specific industry
- Curious and consultative, with the ability to ask effective questions and identify what stakeholders actually need
- Analytical and detail-focused, with a strong commitment to data accuracy and quality
- Practical and delivery-oriented, while maintaining appropriate standards and governance and explaining technical concepts clearly
- Collaborative, dependable, and comfortable taking ownership from requirements through to production support
- Improvement-focused and willing to respectfully challenge inefficient or unclear reporting requests
Must Have
- Strong Power BI semantic modelling and dimensional data-modelling capability
- Advanced DAX capability, including KPIs, financial measures, YTD and MTD, rolling periods, comparisons, variances, and operational metrics
- Demonstrated experience designing and building production dashboards, reports, and Power BI apps or packaged reporting solutions
- Strong Power BI security and governance experience across row-level security, workspaces, apps, permissions, gateways, deployment, and dataset or semantic model ownership
- Ability to understand and query SQL Server and/or PostgreSQL, validate results, and investigate data issues
- Hands-on experience with on-premises data gateway configuration and support
- Strong requirements-gathering skills, including the ability to determine the underlying business need rather than simply build the initial request
- Demonstrated ability to document measures, KPI definitions, reports, models, and ownership
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Power BI Desktop, Power BI Service, DAX, and Power Query
Nice to Have
- Experience with Microsoft Fabric, Power BI deployment pipelines, dataflows, or related Microsoft data services
- Experience integrating or reporting from ERP, CRM, and operational systems such as NetSuite and HubSpot
- Experience with finance, inventory, manufacturing, sales, and customer-service reporting
- Knowledge of source control, release management, testing, and change-control practices for BI solutions
- Relevant Microsoft certification, such as Power BI Data Analyst Associate, or a tertiary qualification in data, technology, business, or a related discipline
- Experience with Azure DevOps, Git, or comparable source-control and deployment tools
- Familiarity with Power Automate, Microsoft 365, and broader Microsoft data-platform tools
Your Daily Tasks
Duties
- Design, build, and maintain production-ready Power BI dashboards, reports, and apps to support reliable business decision-making
- Develop scalable semantic models and reusable DAX measures, including KPIs, financial measures, YTD and MTD calculations, rolling periods, comparisons, variances, and operational metrics
- Administer Power BI security and governance across row-level security, workspaces, apps, permissions, gateways, deployment, and semantic model ownership
- Query SQL Server and/or PostgreSQL sources, validate results, and investigate data quality or reconciliation issues
- Partner with stakeholders to identify underlying business needs, challenge unclear requests, and translate requirements into practical reporting solutions
- Document measures, KPI definitions, reports, models, data lineage, and ownership to ensure clear and maintainable solutions
Daily Responsibilities
- Meet with stakeholders to clarify business questions, reporting needs, priorities, and success measures
- Develop and enhance data models, DAX measures, dashboards, reports, and apps
- Validate reporting outputs against SQL Server and/or PostgreSQL data
- Manage refreshes, gateways, workspace access, row-level security, deployments, production support, and data discrepancies
- Review report usage and performance, optimize slow or complex models, and retire duplicate or low-value reports
- Maintain documentation and collaborate with IT and business teams to prioritize requests and communicate progress, risks, and dependencies
