Emapta is hiring a Data Engineer to design and operate scalable ETL/ELT pipelines, with a focus on Spark-based processing and lakehouse architectures. You will build analytics-ready datasets and collaborate with Analytics, BI, Backend, and Product teams to ensure data quality and availability.

The role requires 3–7+ years in data engineering, strong Python and SQL skills, and experience with modern data platforms. This is a hybrid Makati-based position with opportunities for global impact.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, IT, or a related field.
• 3-7+ years of experience in data engineering or analytics engineering.
• Hands-on experience with ETL/ELT pipelines.
• Experience with Apache Spark for large-scale data processing.
• Background in data warehouses or modern lakehouse platforms.
• Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain batch and incremental ETL and ELT pipelines.
• Transform raw, semi-structured, and structured data into analytics-ready datasets.
• Build and optimize Spark-based data transformations using PySpark and Spark SQL.
• Apply data modeling best practices to support reporting and BI use cases.

• Implement data quality checks, monitoring, and pipeline reliability controls.

Qualifications

Educational Background

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field

Professional Experience

• 3-7+ years of experience in data engineering or analytics engineering
• Hands-on experience building and maintaining ETL and ELT pipelines
• Practical experience using Apache Spark for large-scale data processing
• Background in data integration, data migration, and data pipeline development
• Experience working with data warehouses or modern lakehouse platforms
• Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform is preferred

Required Technical Skills

• Strong proficiency in Python for data processing and pipeline development
• Advanced SQL skills, including joins, aggregations, window functions, and performance tuning
• Hands-on expertise in Apache Spark, PySpark, and Spark SQL
• Solid understanding of ETL and ELT design patterns and orchestration concepts
• Sound knowledge of data warehousing fundamentals and dimensional modeling, including fact and dimension tables
• Familiarity with modern lakehouse architectures and columnar storage formats
• Experience using Git and collaborative development workflows
• Ability to work independently, take ownership, and deliver production-grade data solutions
• Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills
• High levels of accountability, adaptability, flexibility, accuracy, and attention to detail

Preferred

• Experience using Databricks and Delta Lake
• Familiarity with BI tools such as Power BI or Tableau
• Backend development experience using Node.js or FastAPI
• Knowledge of REST APIs, data ingestion patterns, and object-oriented programming principles

Responsibilities

Data Pipeline Development

• Design, develop, and maintain batch and incremental ETL and ELT pipelines
• Transform raw, semi-structured, and structured data into analytics-ready datasets
• Build and optimize Spark-based data transformations using PySpark and Spark SQL
• Apply data modeling best practices to support reporting and business intelligence use cases
• Manage and maintain data warehouse and lakehouse environments
• Implement data quality checks, monitoring processes, and pipeline reliability controls
• Troubleshoot pipeline failures and resolve data integrity and performance issues

Data Platforms and Processing

• Develop scalable data processing solutions using Apache Spark
• Process large-scale datasets in batch and scheduled processing environments
• Optimize system performance and resource utilization
• Apply modern data lakehouse concepts using technologies such as Delta Lake and Databricks

Collaboration

• Partner with Analytics, Business Intelligence, Backend, and Product teams to gather and refine data requirements
• Support downstream users by ensuring data availability, consistency, and usability
• Participate in solution design reviews, code reviews, and data architecture discussions

Backend and Integration

• Build and consume REST APIs for data ingestion and exposure
• Contribute to backend services using Node.js or FastAPI when required
• Implement reliable ingestion patterns, including pagination, retries, and error handling
• Apply object-oriented programming principles to data and service development

Continuous Improvement

• Maintain current knowledge of data engineering tools, frameworks, and best practices
• Recommend and implement improvements in pipeline reliability, scalability, and maintainability
• Standardize data engineering patterns, processes, and documentation

Other Responsibilities

• Perform administrative, non-administrative, and other duties assigned by authorized company representatives through written or verbal instructions
