- Experience translating business rules and stakeholder requirements into structured, engineering-ready documentation, including requirements specifications, data dictionaries, and mapping documents
- Experience facilitating stakeholder workshops and eliciting requirements from both technical and non-technical audiences
- Working knowledge of relational data modeling, ETL/ELT concepts, and data-quality dimensions, including completeness, accuracy, consistency, and timeliness, sufficient to profile and assess source data credibly
- Experience working within an Agile/Scrum delivery model, including sprint ceremonies, shared backlogs, and a shared definition of done
- Strong cross-functional communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with engineering teams and non-technical business stakeholders
Technical Skills & Tools
- Direct, hands-on familiarity with the team's core data platform, with the ability to explore and validate data independently rather than rely solely on secondhand reporting
- Proficiency in SQL, with the ability to independently query and profile data across operational and analytical data stores
- Experience with Lakehouse and warehouse platforms, with the ability to navigate layered data architectures, such as raw, cleansed, and curated layers, to inspect and validate data
- Experience with data modeling and documentation tools, such as DBML, draw.io, or equivalent, for source-to-target mapping and schema documentation
- Familiarity with business intelligence tools, report and dashboard consumption, and semantic models, such as Power BI or equivalent, to translate reporting requirements into platform-ready specifications
- Familiarity with core operational systems, such as HR/HCM, CRM, client management, or similar source systems, sufficient to understand data origin and business context
- Familiarity with project and delivery tools, such as Jira and Confluence or equivalent, for backlog, requirements, and documentation management
Your Daily Tasks
Discovery & Data Profiling
- Inventory and document the organization's source systems and data flows to establish a current-state baseline for connectivity, access, and data flow across each business domain
- Profile data quality, completeness, volume, and anomalies across data sources in partnership with the Data Scientist to establish and maintain data-health baselines
- Document current-state business processes and data-handling workflows to inform schema, pipeline, and validation-rule design
Requirements Translation, Mapping & Documentation
- Own source-to-target field mapping and business-rule mapping for assigned data domains, and partner with Data Engineers to translate requirements into schema and pipeline design
- Translate business rules and priorities set by Data Owners/Stewards into clear, testable requirements for the engineering team
- Maintain and evolve the enterprise data dictionary and mapping documentation, and drive review and sign-off with Data Owners/Stewards and the Data Architect
Data Quality, Testing & Acceptance
- Partner with Data Engineering, source-system owners, and Data Owners/Stewards to provide test evidence, reconciliation support, and process-acceptance sign-off ahead of releases
- Support quality-assurance checks and reconciliation reports across data domains in partnership with the DataOps Lead
- Flag data-quality exceptions and business-rule gaps identified during discovery, mapping, or reconciliation, and drive resolution with the relevant Data Owner or engineering counterpart
Reporting & Business Intelligence Enablement
- Gather and document reporting and self-service analytics requirements from business users and domain owners
- Define access and security requirements for each domain with the Data Architect, including data visibility requirements, to inform role-based and row-level access design
- Contribute the business-user perspective to the design of dashboards, reports, and reporting tools built on the data platform
Governance & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Hold accountable and responsible ownership, alongside Data Owners/Stewards, for discovery, profiling, and data-mapping decisions under the team's governance and RACI model
- Act as the day-to-day liaison between business stakeholders, including Data Owners and functional partners across the organization, and the engineering team to clarify intent and surface open questions early
- Support governance-charter and data-entry-standard adoption across source systems by documenting the business rules those standards must enforce
- Collaborate closely with the Data Engineering Lead, Data Scientist, and DataOps Lead to align discovery, quality, and delivery work with one shared backlog and one definition of done
