Qualifications

• RHIT/RHIA/CCS certification required or equivalent recognized credential.
• Proficient in ICD-10, CPT and HCPCS coding systems.
• Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy under pressure.
• Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems and coding software.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Knowledge of healthcare regulations including HIPAA and billing guidelines.
• At least 2 years DRGV coding experience or 3–5 years Inpatient (IP) coding experience.

Responsibilities

• Review medical records and physician notes to identify diagnoses, procedures, and services.
• Assign diagnostic, procedural, and healthcare codes using ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS.
• Verify coded data for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with guidelines.
• Submit coded records timely to billing and claims for revenue cycle support.

Key Responsibilities

• Review medical records, clinical documentation, and physician notes to identify diagnoses, procedures, and services provided to patients
• Assign appropriate diagnostic, procedural, and healthcare codes using ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems
• Verify that coded data is accurate, complete, and compliant with coding guidelines and regulatory standards
• Ensure timely submission of coded records to billing and claims departments to support revenue cycle management
• Maintain detailed records of coding activities and audit trails for quality assurance purposes
• Communicate with clinical and billing staff to clarify documentation and resolve coding discrepancies
• Stay current with coding updates, regulatory changes, and industry best practices
• Identify and report potential coding errors or compliance issues to supervisors

What we're looking for
