Job summary

Qualifications

Job description

  • Prepares equipment, reagents, chemical standards and test solutions needed to perform chemical analysis under the supervision of a registered chemist.
  • Performs on-site calibration, testing and analysis, which includes (but is not limited to) temperature check, pH, chlorine residual, dissolved oxygen, and flow.
  • Ensures compliance with the Calibration Program and Procedure Manuals of equipment which includes evaluation, usage, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, verification and calibration.
  • Collects, preserves, and transports samples of wastewater and sludge from various points in the wastewater treatment process, receiving bodies of water, and commercial establishments.
  • Performs chemical and physical testing on a wide variety of samples under the supervision of a registered chemist (samples may include wastewater, storm water, sludge, industrial discharges, other waters, and raw materials).
  • Performs Quality Assurance and Quality Control Procedures for sampling, on-site testing, and laboratory analysis under the supervision of a registered chemist.
  • Conducts physical inventory of chemical, glassware, equipment, instruments, and supplies of the laboratory.
  • Generates, prepares, interprets, relays, and maintains test result records and reports while ensuring the quality, validity, integrity, and confidentiality.
  • Ensures that preventive maintenance of service vehicle is being implemented, maintains good housekeeping, and follows the safety guidelines during laboratory and field works.
  • Participates in the implementation of programs, research, testing, development and improvement of process of all wastewater facilities.
  • Assumes other roles and functions needed in observance with the company’s operating procedures and policies (Document and Record Custodian, Safety Officer, Pollution Control Officer, etc.)
QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL LICENSES
  • Completed at least thirty (30) units of undergraduate Chemistry courses from an institution
  • Recognized by CHED or TESDA
  • Registered Chemical Technician
WORK EXPERIENCE
  • Preferably with relevant work experience
  • At least 200 hours training relevant to the job is desirable

  • Developed knowledge of operational characteristics, services and activities of a wastewater treatment plant including nutrient removal and characteristics of effluent.
  • Developed knowledge of laboratory techniques, equipment, terminology and procedures.
  • Developed knowledge of principles and practices of qualitative and quantitative chemistry.
  • Developed knowledge of principles of chemical and physical analysis.
  • Developed knowledge of mathematical calculations used in chemical analyses.
  • Developed knowledge of proper sample collection procedures and techniques.
  • Knowledge of principles and procedures of record keeping.
  • Developed knowledge of occupational hazards and standard safety practices.
  • Developed knowledge of pertinent laws, codes and regulations.
  • Ability to operate the most complex laboratory equipment including Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) analyzer, OCMA Oil and grease analyzer, Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) analyzer, spectrophotometer, Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS), Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR).
  • Ability to analyze and interpret test results.
  • Ability to conduct chemical and physical tests.
  • Ability to effectively collect samples and specimens.
  • Ability to conduct mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to maintain laboratory equipment.
  • Ability to prepare clear and concise technical reports.
  • Ability to lead, organize and review the work of lower level staff.
  • Ability to respond to emergency situations.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
