Job summary

Paramount Life & General Insurance Corporation is seeking an experienced Underwriting Manager to lead our GPA and Travel insurance underwriting team in Makati. You will oversee hands-on underwriting for Group Medical risks while guiding six underwriters through complex negotiations with brokers and sales partners.

You will mentor the team, ensure timely, commercially sound decisions, monitor portfolio performance, and strengthen underwriting governance in collaboration with reinsurance, claims,

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of group medical and employee benefits underwriting.
• Experience in risk assessment, pricing strategies, and portfolio management.
• Experience reviewing claims experience and healthcare utilization to inform underwriting decisions.
• Understanding of reinsurance structures and underwriting governance.
• Experience managing Third-Party Administrators (TPAs), including contract management and SLA governance.
• 8-10 years of underwriting experience within the insurance industry.
• At least 3 years leading an underwriting team while remaining actively involved in hands-on underwriting.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship management skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead complex underwriting decisions and provide final underwriting direction on challenging cases.
• Lead and develop the underwriting team; foster collaboration and accountability.
• Partner with Sales and Brokers; explain underwriting decisions and negotiate terms with brokers and clients.
• Monitor portfolio profitability and recommend strategies to improve long-term performance.
• Analyse claims experience, utilisation trends, and emerging risks to support underwriting decisions.
• Collaborate with Reinsurance, Claims, and Operations teams to achieve business objectives.
• Manage third-party partners to ensure quality service delivery and strong operational performance.
• Maintain compliance with regulatory requirements and internal underwriting standards.
