Job summary

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent; legal background or experience preferred.
  • Strong English grammar, spelling, proofreading, and editing skills.

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office; familiarity with XML/Arbortext tools is an advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Review legislative and legal materials to ensure updates, amendments, and repeals are reflected accurately in the system.
  • Copy-edit content for accuracy, grammar, spelling, clarity, and style requirements.
  • Analyze and format legal materials for publication, applying required tags and markup.
  • Proofread edited content to verify accuracy, formatting, and completeness before publication.
  • Prepare proofs for review and coordinate with subject matter experts to resolve questions.
  • Create and maintain editorial notes and content enhancements per standards.
  • Ensure all editorial work meets quality, accuracy, and productivity standards.
  • Identify recurring errors and perform root-cause analysis to improve processes.
  • Manage tasks according to production schedules, priorities, and deadlines.
  • Identify potential production issues and escalate as needed.
  • Recommend process improvements to increase efficiency and quality.
  • Collaborate with editors, legal analysts, SMEs across jurisdictions.
  • Support colleagues with production activities and knowledge sharing.
  • Continuously develop knowledge of statutory editorial tools and LexisNexis platforms.
  • Complete required training and certifications within timelines.

Junior Legal Content Editor

The Legal Content Editor is responsible for ensuring that legislative and legal content is accurate, complete, consistent, and up to date in other clients' legal products.

The role focuses on reviewing and processing updates, amendments, and repeals across three key content areas: Statutes/Statcodes, Court Rules, and Administrative Codes.

Working as part of a collaborative editorial team, the Legal Content Editor reviews, edits, formats, proofreads, and prepares legal content for publication while ensuring compliance with jurisdictional editorial standards and production deadlines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review legislative and legal materials to ensure that updates, amendments, and repeals are accurately reflected in Clients system/platform.
  • Copy-edit legal content for accuracy, grammar, spelling, clarity, consistency, and jurisdiction-specific style requirements.
  • Analyze and format legal materials for publication, including applying and cleaning up required tags and markup.
  • Proofread edited and formatted content to verify accuracy, formatting, and completeness before publication.
  • Prepare and submit proofs for review and coordinate with subject matter experts and business stakeholders to resolve questions and corrections.
  • Create and maintain editorial notes and content enhancements in accordance with established standards.
  • Ensure all assigned editorial work meets or exceeds quality, accuracy, and productivity standards.
  • Identify recurring errors and perform basic root-cause analysis to help improve quality and editorial processes.
  • Manage assigned tasks according to production schedules, priorities, and deadlines.
  • Identify potential production issues or roadblocks and elevate them appropriately.
  • Recommend and support process improvements that increase efficiency, accuracy, and quality.
  • Collaborate with content editors, hybrid editors, legal analysts, SMEs, and teams across different jurisdictions and locations.
  • Support colleagues with production activities and share knowledge, best practices, and subject-matter expertise.
  • Continuously develop knowledge of statutory editorial tools, processes, and LexisNexis platforms.
  • Complete required training and certifications within established timelines.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience; legal background or experience is preferred.
  • Strong English grammar, spelling, proofreading, and editing skills.

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency and working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Comfortable conducting online research and navigating digital information systems.
  • Experience with XML, Arbortext, Adobe, or similar content-editing tools is an advantage.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Flexible and able to adapt to changes in processes, systems, and priorities.
  • Able to work effectively with conflicting priorities and changing deadlines.
  • Strong team player with a positive attitude and willingness to collaborate.
