Job description

You’ll be working with the engineering team.

This team runs on coffee with an infectious passion for building products that have never been built before. Our Flexible Energy Stack consists of the e^pack (battery pack) and e^pump (charging station) which together unlock 15-minute rapid charging.

Our philosophy: Break. Believe. Build

Break stuff. Break assumptions. Break the thumb rule.

Believe in the team. Believe in the process. Believe through failures.

Build fast. Build passionately. Build to simplify.

What you will do:
  • Own electrical design and integration activities across Exponent’s battery pack and charging systems.
  • Translate system requirements into electrical architectures, component selections, sizing, interfaces, and validation plans.
  • Work hands-on with prototypes, instrumentation, testing, debugging, and engineering changes from concept through implementation.
Responsibilities:
  • Electrical Design: Component selection, electrical sizing, fault calculations, protection coordination, and ensuring compliance with applicable design requirements and standards.
  • System Integration: Define system boundaries, engineering requirements, and system functions; establish and manage interactions and interfaces within the system and with external systems.
  • DFMEA: Conduct detailed Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) at system and component levels to identify potential failure modes, assess risks, and define appropriate mitigation measures.
  • Engineering Validation Testing (EVT): Define and execute engineering validation tests based on failure modes and risks identified through FMEA, ensuring the design meets functional, performance, and reliability requirements.
  • Root Cause Analysis (RCA): Perform systematic root cause analysis of issues and defects identified during development, testing, and field operation; implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Bug Resolution & Engineering Changes: Identify robust and reliable solutions for design and field issues, perform impact analysis for proposed changes, and own the Engineering Change Request (ECR) process through implementation and closure.
The ideal candidate requires:
  • 0–1 year of relevant experience; fresh graduates are encouraged to apply.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Power Electronics, Electrical & Electronics Engineering (EEE), Mechatronics, or equivalent demonstrated knowledge and strong technical proficiency in these areas.
  • Strong fundamentals in electrical engineering, including circuit analysis, power electronics basics, electrical safety, and core engineering principles.
  • Hands‑on evidence of building: something you designed, built, wired, tested, and debugged yourself.
  • Understanding of inductors, capacitors, resistors, transistors, and OpAmps, along with practical familiarity with instruments such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, and current and voltage probes.
  • Structured failure thinking: when a project broke, you investigated and identified the root cause instead of simply swapping parts.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to work through real‑world engineering challenges in a structured manner.
Priority given to
  • Candidates with substantial ownership in engineering‑intensive competitive teams such as SAE Supra, FSAE, SAE Baja, ABU Robocon, Shell Eco Marathon, or similar teams. Ownership of a subsystem counts more than membership.
What matters:
  • Quality of work
  • Approach towards problem-solving
  • Dissatisfaction towards mediocre work
  • Resilient attitude to bounce back after failing
