Exponent is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to develop sheet metal components and optimize packaging for the e^pump. You will drive structural and thermal designs that are efficient, cost‑effective, and manufacturable while meeting safety and performance requirements.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Designing for weight, volume, thermal performance and IP sealing (DFM/DFA).
  • Performing conceptual designs, calculations and tolerance analyses.
  • Developing and executing test plans to validate subsystems and product performance.
  • Conducting RCAs for issues during testing and field deployment.
  • Collaborating with manufacturers and mold designers to refine designs.
  • Documenting development from concept to production (FMEA, DFX, DVP, inspection plans).

You’ll be working with the Engineering team.

This team runs on coffee with an infectious passion to build products that have never been built before. Our Flexible Energy Stack consists of the e^pack (battery pack) and e^pump (charging station), which together unlock 15-minute rapid charging.

Role Description

We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to develop sheet metal components (e.g., enclosures, electrical panels) and optimize packaging for the e^pump. You will drive structural and thermal designs that are efficient, cost-effective, and manufacturable while meeting safety and performance requirements.

Responsibilities:
  • Designing for weight, volume, thermal performance, and IP sealing while ensuring serviceability and manufacturability (DFM/DFA).
  • Performing conceptual designs, theoretical calculations, and tolerance stack analyses.
  • Developing and executing test plans to validate subsystems and full product performance.
  • Conducting root cause analyses (RCAs) for issues during testing and field deployment.
  • Collaborating with manufacturers, assembly teams, and mold designers to refine designs based on feedback.
  • Documenting the product development cycle from concept to production stabilization (FMEA, DFX, DVP, inspection plans, etc.).
What You Bring:
  • Expertise in structural design, thermal systems, and electro‑mechanical packaging.
  • Strong understanding of fluid systems, heat transfer (conductive/convective), and refrigeration basics.
  • Hands‑on experience with mechanical assembly, IP sealing, and optimizing packaging for cost and performance.
  • Solid knowledge of materials (Metals, Plastics, Composites, Elastomers) and their applications.
  • Proven experience in taking a product from concept to production, backed by strong mathematical and analytical skills.
